AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

The 7800x3d didn't sell out in seconds or anything last time. At the very least it was hours, I think.
I'm fine with hours, I have horrible memories of trying to get the 3080 where I had seconds to try and get it each time... took over a month to get a FE 3080.
knowing my luck I will miss it by 6 hours even though i'm off that day as I will forget. lol

Those were very different times, people were just buying them to sell on for profit due to a crypto boom and mining craze.

If anyone is buying a 9800x3d to flip they will be incredibly disappointed as no one sensible would pay over the odds for something that will likely have a suitable level of availability.

I haven't been keeping tabs on the likely performance of the chips but if anything a drive down on the currently inflated 7800x3d chips as a result would be nice.

I'm probably going to sit out picking one up at launch. Not convinced a 9800X3D will be much of an upgrade from my 7800X3D for 4K gaming. Will have a look at prices ( and reviews ) at some point next year.

Considering I've got a 5800x3D and it's still not giving me any issues or pushing me upgrade, I can't imagine having a 7800x3D and thinking about upgrading.

If only gaming GPU upgrade will give bigger difference before CPU

I have 5800x3d with 3080, does what I need but love to have something new to play with but new platform without GPU upgrade isn't gonna do much I know GPU upgrade is the sensible option just gonna wait for next gen cards and see what's on offer that provide 4080 type performance

Shiny new syndrome, suspect many of us suffer with it here, also extra 100 now might see you through an extra generation later on and save 100’s then
I was looking to upgrade my 7600x to a 7800x3d only weeks before this announcement. But seeing the pricing over the last 6 months and the lack of them being sold on for sale forum.. Didn't.. But now I am sadly really falling into this pit.
There was even a 7800x3d in for sale forum yesterday and I didn't even reply.. Oh dear me..

For what it’s worth, if you have a look here at some of the individual game results at 4k for minimum frames, you’ll see the supposed uplift when moving to the 7800x3d from the 7600x. It’s not life changing but not insignificant either.

You can then take that into consideration with any future reviews of the 9800x3d to help you decide if it’s worth it.

Also that's with a 4090

Thanks. That's interesting.. I still play 1080p so the jump is bigger but yes, not much..
I will still wait for the reviews. Even Linus hinted in WAN show the other day it will be good.. But we will see how good!

I wouldn't over think it too much (I'm coming from the same CPU). 9800x3D is £450 for the best gaming CPU (and two extra cores for us) and at this rate of progress will likely last at least 5 years. 390-500 isn't that much more of a premium to pay from the 7800x3D price IMO.

There is something psychologically damaging about gaming at 4.x ghz vs 5.x ghz if you went 7800x3D from our 5.4ghz 7600x.
