AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Playing around a bit further, it seems that my 9800X3D wasn't stable with a -40 curve optimiser (+200 boost) setting. Crashed during a Cinebench multicore workout.

Seems to be working with a -35 offset though. With the Cinebench multicore, it scored 1387 compared with 1287 at stock. Temps are <88 degrees after 10 mins. Clock across cores is 5340-60 MHz

Single core boost is solid at 5415 MHz Temps when running the single core Cinebench test are <53 degrees.

Is anyone else having problems getting their 9800X3D to post? I cannot even reach the BIOS on a new Asus Tuf Gaming X670E with Corsair Vengeance 6000 CL30 EXPO RAM. It is in the compatibility list on the Asus website, but gives a DRAM error light immediately on powering on. Never gives a video signal through the GPU, tried also through the iGPU with the GPU unplugged.

I tried flashing the BIOS using quick flashback but that failed despite using a FAT32 formatted empty USB stick which used to work for BIOS updates on my former Gigabyte board. I have ordered a 4GB USB stick to try FAT16 which some people suggested. I had problems getting EXPO to run stably on the Gigabyte Aorus Elite X670-AX so I figured this Asus board would be better. I have just built a matching system with the same RAM and the Asus TUF Gaming B650E Plus motherboard and my old 7800X3D for a friend which booted up fine out of the box without any new BIOS updates. That worked with EXPO straight away.

Does anyone have any constructive suggestions? I am planning to try swapping for my friends identical RAM sticks to test if my sticks are faulty if the BIOS flash still won't work on the new USB stick. Thanks in advance
Could you ask to borrow your old CPU back for the bios?

2/3 parts for my upgrade arrived this morning.

Just waiting for the motherboard now (Asrock X870E Nova WIFI), cancelled a pre-order elsewhere and placed here instead. I'm really hoping this upgrade attempt goes smoother than my attempt to upgrade to the 7800X3D back in March, ended up with multiple faulty parts and sent back 5 of 6 items ordered (keeping only the SSD). Holding off the GPU upgrade this time, will see how the 50 series looks and upgrade then instead.

Did everyone reformat when they installed their CPU?

I have been getting Chrome glitches. If I scroll a page down, sometimes it with only scroll down a small box segment of the screen, wait 20 seconds and then the whole page goes to where it should be. I'll try re installing Chrome first.

Yes, but only because I was previously on AM4

I had to slacken my ram timings to get my CPU stable at -40/+200. Have you tuned your sticks?

On its own 2x32G 6200 CL28 with 2066 FCLK was stable, but not with the above PBO config (cinebench crapping out, OCCT cpu+mem combined stress errors after about 30 mins)

4 hours of OCCT CPU+memory combined (large data set, extreme settings) passed this morning with the same PBO as above with 6200/CL30 and 2200 FCLK

I dropped vSOC to 1.2v for this run, I don't think my FCLK likes 1.3v

Will do an 8 hour test overnight next

@Cenuij yup I think I’m in the same boat… I failed an AIDA64 stress test with those settings I previously posted so now winding back the CPU undervolting and just making sure the ram is stable.

Currently running stock CPU + EXPO and will give that 20 mins before playing further, just in case. I think I’m going to focus on the ram before the CPU undervolt, as temps aren’t really going to be an issue with this CPU.

The ‘easy buildzoid timings’ have generally seemed to work for me and lowered latency to 70n/s which I thought was good… all for nothing if I can’t get it stable though across different tasks.

Actually on that note about vSOC, what's yours set to?

vSOC contributes to the overall package budget, so with the under volt maybe the cores are just not quite getting enough.

If you're at 1.3v, you could try dropping it to make more power available for the cores.

Thanks. Yes, dropping that was one of the things on my list to sort… as well as for increasing FCLK as I gather that’s sensitive to high vSOC too.

I've just ordered one of these. My trusty old Noctua NH-D14 will still be fine presumably?

I hope so because I love that thing. It's still on its original fans from when I bought it in 2012.

Well, it turns out it’s one last day with the 7800X3D today lol. Didn’t quite receive the shipment early enough yesterday to get delivery today, so was shipped today and will be delivered tomorrow. Bit of a bummer as I’m off work today, and am working tomorrow, but is what it is.

So excited to finally get this in my rig.

using the u12a here with the offset bracket, cools it like a champ. set the CO now to -40 and max temp in r23 after 30 mins is 61.5c on tdie

Well after excitedly waiting for mine to arrive, day of work, new thermal paste arrived from the rainforest, old cpu removed, get a notification saying the DPD driver is 5 mins away :D then 2 mins later “sorry you weren’t in today, the driver has left it at the nearest drop off point, you can collect it tomorrow”:mad:

This wasn’t ordered from OCUK btw, but never had this issue with DPD before so typical it happened today. Not received the pass thing yet to be able to collect it, anyone know how long it usually takes to show in the app or via email?

OMG, I would be absolutely seething .

I’ve ordered a LOT of things via DPD and seem to recall having this issue once. Not sure why it happened, and luckily, it wasn’t something I was impatient for or needing very badly.

If I’d waited this long to get a CPU and was off work and it happened on that occasion, I’d be absolutely furious, jeez.

Don’t quote me on it, but the one time it happened to me, I seem to recall I didn’t get the scan code for pickup until next morning. As said though, don’t take that as gospel as it was a while ago.

I’m sure you’d be able to collect it with the parcel number and ID in the very unlikely event you didn’t get the QR scan though.

Yeah to say I’m fuming is an understatement, I contacted their CS straight away and said I’d literally just received the notification saying the driver didn’t deliver it and the drop off point is 5 mins down the road, can the driver not just come back and actually deliver it?

But all their CS keep saying was nothing they could do, they’ve logged the complaint and all I can do is collect it tomorrow  usually we have the same driver everything but today of all days different guy.
