AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

I use Karhu as recommended by LT Matt

Also keep my SOC to 1.2v or below as this was the culprit for the early 7800x3D chips burning as board vendors were setting them too high.
Yes, I do like long runs of Karhu with cache enabled. :)

9800X3D 6600C26/2200 FCLK.

1.3 SOC (passed a Karhu test last night at 1.275v)
1.71 VDD (in the process of lowering to 1.7-1.69 VDD)
1.58 VDDQ (not adjusting)
1.45 VDDIO (not adjusting)
1.150 VDDP (not adjusting)

I also like to run a little bit of OCCT Combined AVX-512 + VRAM test as well.

Just posted in the Fallout 4 benchmark thread zoko over on AT got some 9800X3D results:
2zIGje6.png

Around 9% faster than the best Zen4 3D when overclocked.

Anyone able to challenge this?

(We are also still looking for ADL results for FO4 as Fallout/Skyrim/Starfield often behave strangely so seeing ADL's changes might is also of interest).

is it A die or M die ?, if its A die, your tRFC ns are way high, for A die you want to be aiming for 120-125ns, is that buildzoids easy DDR5 timings ? if its A die then change your tRFC to 400, also AMD dont use tRFC2 and tRFCsb so those can just be set to 1, you may even need to change both your SCLs to 5, that will bring your ns right down for a start and you latency a little too.

Im running a similar kit at 8000MT/s, but this will give you an idea of what isnt really used in the sub timings unless you're running 4 sticks of ram and can just be set to 1 so it has no effect.

Also voltages are very sensitive on Ryzen, youve got to find the right balance, it could be SOC, VIDDIO (memory controller), VDD or VDDQ which should really be set the same, 1.17v SOC is the minimum I can run to remain stable in memtest pro 1.15v gives me errors, I generally tell people just to set SOC to 1.2v and then adjust it once youve got everything stable, when I was running 6400 CL28 1:1 though I needed 1.28v SOC to keep it stable.

Jamin, mind if I pick your brain on my timings too?

I messed around a bit with Scatterbenchers, OC Strategy #4: Asynchronous eCLK, but it was unstable for me, so I've gone back to "standard" and currently running:

Code:
Infinity Fabric Frequency: 2100 MHz
UCLK DIV1 MODE: UCLK=MEMCLK
Precision Boost Overdrive Scalar: 10X
CPU Boost Clock Override: Enabled (Positive)
Max CPU Boost Clock Override: 200
All Core Curve Optimizer Magnitude: -15 (currently testing -15, as baseline, then will go further)

I set my RAM settings a while ago for my 7800X3D and just copied them across for my 9800X3D:

Yes, but not sure I can be bothered with the faff to do that bench after last time. :p

My timing seems to suck. I was originally looking at a partial upgrade for my AM4 board, but getting hold of a 5800x3d is just not possible anymore, so my man maths decided to just go for the jump to AM5 (I figure I'll be on this CPU for a good 5-6 years like my current 2700x), seen this had just released and thought, "oh, good timing" not realising there is practically no stock anywhere. :o

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but is it early 2025 when there will be more stock? May have to settle with a new GPU for now and wait for a month or 2.

Don't hold me to this but I thought I'd seen estimates of more stock being available around late January to February.

I'm also not sure if now is the best time to get a GPU, it seems like the 50 series is just around the corner.

Got it around midday. Going to work now so haven’t had much chance to tinker, but got it to boot at 6400CL30/2200FLCK, which my 7800X3D couldn’t do. Did quickly try CL28 but it threw errors. Was only at 1.5v and 38c DIMM temp though, so have some headroom.

Will update later when I can tinker properly

Does that mean you are running 1:1?

The 5700x3d is almost as good as the 5800x3d - I believe it runs a little cooler too.

I'm sure that a number of 5800x3d chips will come onto the 2nd hand market as people upgrade to AM5. I would have sold mine, but my current gaming system is going to replace an aged i5 750 office computer (that may or may not run DCS server in the near future ;))

Hi guys, it is harder to OC 64gb ram (2x 32gb) then 32 gb (2x 16gb)? I can run 6000mhz nice and stable 1:1 but i have problem with 6400mhz 1:1. Thanks for answer.

They are probably Dual Rank sticks, Single Rank sticks have the Memory IC's on just one side of the stick, Dual Rank have them on both sides of the stick, that is often how you get 32GB sticks instead of 16GB sticks.

Dual Rank RAM sticks do put more stress on the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) and with that don't clock as high as Single Rank RAM stick, if you're getting 6000MT/s with them that's decent, and good for Dual Rank, be happy with that. :)

This rams:

So there is no way to try improve stability by any setting to run them on 6400mhz with 2133 fclk? Any ideas I can try? Thank you for your answer:)

That kit of ram you are running will do exactly the same timings as I posted at 8000MT/s, I know this as its A Die and ive got a kit of it lol, you will just have to change UCLK/MEMCLK to 2:1 and in turn allows you to lower SOC and VDDIO by a fair amount to, people think its not really worth it, but its still faster than 6400MT/s 1:1.

Cancel that......ive just realized youve got the Strix X670E-E, 2 DPC X670 boards struggle with 8000MT/s

Hey guys can I get a bit of advice please? :)

I've got my 9800X3D on its way so I'm picking a motherboard to go with it. I'm not too fussed about m.2 slots (3 is fine, 4 would just be a nice bonus) or tons of USB slots etc. PCIe 5.0 is also not a deal breaker, it'd be nice to have but I'd be perfectly happy without it too.

The thing that's holding me back from picking one is being unsure what I really need to do a decent overclock with the 9800X3D. I don't want to go too cheap and then find it's bad for overclocking. I'm happy to spend around £200-£230 but if that's no good I could maybe stretch further, any suggestions?

Also what's the verdict on RAM with the 9800X3D, is 6000 still the sweet spot or does it actually benefit from higher now?

Thanks

I went with the Asrock X870 Pro RS, only reasonably priced one in stock on ocuk I could find, seems to have good reviews.
