HI there

Well to those who have been upset struggling to find a decent powerful enough CPU for their socket 939 setup to help power a 7800 GS or X1950, well OcUK has good news:-

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939) - OEM
CP-181-AM_400.jpg

Increase your performance by up to 80% with the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor. Work or play with multiple programs without any stalling or waiting. Dual-core technology is like having two processors, and two working together is better and faster than one working alone. Do more in less time with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor.

- Only AMD64 technology runs today’s 32-bit and tomorrow’s 64-bit software
- AMD’s Enhanced Virus Protection for Microsoft ® Windows ® XP SP2*
- Cool'n'Quiet™ technology for a quieter computer and lower power costs

about bloody time, what were you people doing shipping them over by donkey ?

Hi there

Nothing to do with us, AMD have had none to little stock in the channel for weeks/months.

This is just AMD clearance stock as these chips have not been in production for some time.

Also if were using Donkeys what are our competitors using as this CPU seems generally unavailable elsewhere?

I have an SD 4000+ prozzer at the moment, would I get any benefit over my current cpu, if i buy one of these :confused:

Very little, the 4000 should sit at 3ghz easily so unless you're doing a lot of stuff that needs dual core then it's a waste of money.

true i have to say even if you are using donkeys god only knows what the other places are using, small squirrels perhaps.

As for AMD having no stock, AMD have been pushing 939 stock to US distributors for weeks... i know of one very very large US distributor to several smaller E and Re tailers thats been buying them by the bucketload, including batches of beautiful stepping opty 170`s and selling them for £107 a pop to the general public. :confused:

EDIT i tell a lie, £98.50 a pop for an opty 170, i had to pay another $16 to get it posted to me.

Any info on 939 fx 60's for around £200?

i dont think there gonna drop untill AMD starts ramping out the 65nm models, then youl see some sliding to clear existing inventory. although looking at the British market youd think everyone had given up with AMD already...

FX60`s currently on sale in the USA for £230. when the price slides i will come shout it on the CPU forums.

Clearly they are using the venture co. Mouse-based delivery system, where you pay in cheese per item received :D

Oooh, I'm very tempted to grab one of these to replace my 3200+. Cheaper than me shifting to Core 2 Duo, seeing as I only bought 2GB of RAM for this one a few months back.

Depending on what you do there is a huge difference from going to a single to a dual core.
If you multitask, use lots of 3d/2d apps or just generally like how nippy a clean windows install is (my current install is a really dirty install with so much crap in, and its still a damn site more responsive than my brothers clean installed single core setup :)), get a dual core.
If you just play games, I'd stick with a single :)

I run a 939 4600 and for anyone trying to decide whether to upgrade to one they are a superb chip, i've been well chuffed with mine (upgraded from Opty 148).

I'm using an X2 3800 at the mo and would certainly consider an upgrade.
However, I have 2 (noobish) questions:

1. Are these 4600s OC are selling Windsor or Toledo?
2. Are the AMD X2s true 64bit - I.e. will Vista 64 run ok with these?

Windsor =am2
Toledo = 1mb 939
Manchester =512k 939

they are Manchester's. (some can be failed Toledo's)

i dont understand how anything could be 'non true' 64 bit, it either is or isnt, they are as well, they are called 'athlon 64 x2' for a reason :p
