AMD THREADRIPPER VS INTEL SKYLAKE X

Bugged in what way exactly?

As for new steppings, that is pretty common.

poor ram support, from the tweet it fixes the SOC which is why ryzen struggles with decent ram speeds, even more so when using 4 sticks.

uncore is also related to memory latencies

basically take the current ryzen as a beta test and this new stepping as the final revision .

they seem to think it's fixes several hardware level issues, which is probably why some rare chips can run 3600 but plenty can't get past 2666 ram for example

Now you are talking out of your ass.
It doesn't struggle with decent ram speeds anymore than the x99 platform. From what I have seen it has nothing to do with the SoC.
Every CPU in the world struggles more when using 4 dimms when compared to 2.
Plenty have got past 2666. Those are the early reviews you are reading or are using the worst case scenario (64gb double rank hynix with 4 dimms)
Us "normal" folk have been hitting 3200 for some time.

huh, this is interesting new stepping /revision for ryzen coming soon

https://mobile.twitter.com/CPCHardware/status/876213236743507968

from the same people that showed the first ryzen benchmarks last december.

so basically they're going to fix the uncore/ram issues and charge everyone a premium to rebuy a non bugged cpu?

Oh stop, you really are taking your scripts from Intel's spin doctors.

They are making improvements, you are turning what is AMD continuing with making their products better into 'AMD's stuff is broken. its completely normal for anyone to keep making improvements to their products.

Intel's products are no more broken when they make stepping improvements to their products any more than it is with AMD.
Stop trolling.

seems like the current cpus were like beta tests, which is why the launch went so badly due to amd trying to rush products out the door to please investors.

if they do make a change that fixes memory comparability and uncore/latency then that would be one of the biggest issues the platform currently has.

AMD's £300 CPU are as fast as Intel's £1000 CPU... thats the issue on your mind, some issue when AMD's CPU's at the same price point are twice as fast as Intel's that's another issue you have.
You're livid that Intel have been utterly mullured, that's your issue. AND run cooler, and they are far more power efficient... they are everything you wish Intel were... Because of all this your hate for AMD is palpable. its a rage, it come through everytime you put your fingers on the keyboard.

if it was twice as fast as the same cpu at the same price point, why does ryzen only perform on par with sandy bridge in gaming?

ryzen matches an older Intel cpu in a few select benchmarks, but unfortunately in real world scenarios falls flat.

it's good price/perf but that's about it.

It isn't.... nice try tho... Ryzen vs £1000 6900K so if the 2500K beats Ryzen it must smash the 6900K too, right?

These broken Ryzens seem to be performing alright from what I can see.

What I can't work out is do they offer better price/performance or are they just pure "faildozer 2.0's". I seem to keep reading a conflicting opinion which is leaving me rather confused.

I'd believe people that actually provide evidence for their opinions, rather than some fanboy on a forum. Or every forum spouting the same crap.

good gpu bottlenecked scenario

gotta admit the title is catchy ! "an i5 in gaming, i7 in production"

Did you even watch the video or just look at the title and then completely misunderstand it? assuming he did that as an attack on Ryzen? his conclusion is the 1800X is better.

Speaking of GPU Bottlencks... this from his review is a Gaming GPU bottleneck.. if its not the difference between the 1800X and the 7700K is 2%, the choice is yours.

Where were you when Intel released all their new steppings of CPUs? Seriously it's getting old now, at least be objective.

Yeah these god damned GPU-limited 720p tests, where are the proper 640x480 tests benchmarkers?!?!

Another great comparison by Hans De Vries.

Cool comparison.

Also doesn't tell the whole story, if you take account of how they're made. Skylake isn't modular, there's just a few different overall-sizes which then have some cores turned off.

i.e. the Skylake-X 28 core is a 698mm2 chip on the wafer, but the 32 core EPYC is 4 lots of 189mm2 dies off the wafer. This is important since, due to the way yields work, 4x189mm2 is WAYYYYY cheaper to manufacture than 698mm2.

It would be super interesting if we ever find out what the like-for-like final-chip-cost is for both Intel and AMD.

i watched the video several times, how multiple times he mentions how ryzen underperforms in gaming, and that little jab at amd about how they wanted him to alter his tests to make their cpus look better.

the comments section is disgusting though, after amd sub reddit invaded and sent dozens of death threats because he merely showed how it truly performs.

anyway, I'm not too sure why you keep trying to start arguments with me? clearly after I said I'll agree to disagree and leave it at that yesterday some trolls decided they needed to keep trying and make jabs at me. which is fine, I'll add you to my ignore list and enjoy the rest of my day :)

You wont be able to read anything soon. Adding anyone with an argument you don't like to see to your ignore list :D
Pretty sure I'm already on it but people are learning to see what you are like.

****Reviewers being treated badly on Reddit hyperbolic of topic nonses snipped out****

I'm not, i'm challenging you when you keep inventing crap like that ^^^^^ he's also in my opinon at least an idiot, yes he was banging on about how the 1800X was only performing like an i5.... at the same time completely ignoring the 7700K above also performing bar 2% exactly the same as the i5.... seriously.... he shouldn't be doing reviews, he has no idea how to read his own bar charts.

All I see is an unverified tweet about some uncore errata. Nothing about what you just posted.

All chips have minor errata. No one designs chips perfectly.

That is why there are so many stepping and revisions across Intel and AMD chips.

Who knows maybe you are right. These new Ryzen chips which are already not that far behind Skylake IPC, might actually start to beat it. Good for AMD.

So since you like to infer so much crap from one tweet, where is your information that the 18 core SL-X chip will be supported on the X299 boards coming out tomorrow via a simple bios update?
