AMD THREADRIPPER VS INTEL SKYLAKE X

All I see is an unverified tweet about some uncore errata. Nothing about what you just posted.

All chips have minor errata. No one designs chips perfectly.

That is why there are so many stepping and revisions across Intel and AMD chips.

Who knows maybe you are right. These new Ryzen chips which are already not that far behind Skylake IPC, might actually start to beat it. Good for AMD.

So since you like to infer so much crap from one tweet, where is your information that the 18 core SL-X chip will be supported on the X299 boards coming out tomorrow via a simple bios update?

Inside his own narrow minded imagination.

Not sure how true this, but there maybe cut down x299 boards, getting released. The boards will have dual channel memory and less pcie lanes.

I wonder how ****** of mobo manufacturers are going to be right now, because I don't see them making massive bank on x299 mobos.

Is this to do with asus not supporting the quads on some of its boards?
Either way this if this was mainstream the consumer would be stepping into a ***********.
I'd say most people looking at these would be clued up though.

this gets more and more of a mess by the day it seems, so now you can possibly get a motherboard that will only support kaby lake X, so why even invest in x299 now and just get a 7700k and save a chunk of money.

Because of what happened with the z270. It only sold because of the 7700k and people lapped it up because of 5ghz.
Now they know people will buy a mobo for 1 CPU they will do it again until people wise up.

It would certainly make KL-X more palatable if the price is closer to Z270 boards.

How though, literally every single last Intel fanboy I saw defend KL-X said, it's so if you have less money upfront you can buy the board and a cheaper chip then later on you can just replace the chip and have an awesome x299 system. Cut down KL-X cores remove that only actual reason for buying them even if that reason was genuinely god damned awful.

KL-X has no resell value, people will want a cheaper z270 chip with the igpu for frankly better overall value and more flexibility or they'll want a full x299. There is nothing that makes sense about the chip and a board that lacks all the real features of x299 has no upgrade path, no sense, frankly all it does is go hey, here is a z270 board and 7700k, here buy a 7700k with the gpu disabled and the same board with a larger more expensive socket in it for absolutely no reason.

z270 is already a cut down x299 board, and the Kl-X chips are just the chips sold on z270 without the igpu and increased TDP(which you can increase yourself anyway).

I think anyone who buys a KL-X and x299 board limited to only 16pci-e and dual channel memory should be personally visited by a forum member and slapped in the face for being that damn stupid.

I guess hard-core overclockers perhaps? the larger heat spreader should make cooling better, and that Intel overclockers guide suggests you're likely to get higher clocks than a 7700k (presumably down to the larger cooling area)

but other than that you might as well get a normal x299 board and have the upgrade path available to you.

@zornyan

Getting X299 is like ordering cheese and toast but then only being given toast. Then telling everyone how good your piece of toast is but ultimately dying inside due to the lack of cheese.

I think we've now put an end to this matter?

Thats a good way to put it.

I'm confused by what you're trying to say?

pretty much every review of x299 is extremely positive, even Linus did a 180 on his last video.

Again, you're making blanket statements that just aint true.
While mostly positive in a generic way they are not free of any criticism and Linus has stuck to his. even your favourite reviewer had some criticisms.

It's simple, I'll put it into mathatical terms.

Cheese + Toast = Toast

Therefore Toast = X299

I watched the Linus review, he said he stood by his previous opinion and video. That is a man who can clearly tell and push back when he gets no cheese on his toast.

mostly positive with statements like

"fastest consumer cpu on the planet" pc world

tweaktown mentioning how impressive it is Intel has increased peak flops eight times over four generations

or overclocked3d

"After all, if an 8/16 setup like that on the i7-7820X can push the i7-6950, then the sky is the limit. That's before we even consider the unknown capabilities of their 18 core monster waiting in the wings.""

Linus mentions several times how it is a very strong product and how it is a great product launch.

He said in a vacuum it's a great product, but with potentially how good Threadripper is in a couple of months it's a great situation for us/consumers.

Seriously? i didn't say they were all negative, i said they were mostly positive... you cherry-picking only the best bits does not prove a whitewash of 100% positivity toward Intel, there is some criticism of the product and Linus did stick to his.

Give it a rest man, there is such a thing as trying way too hard to sell a product.

Toast is toast, no matter how you dress it up.

Now listen. I wouldn't want you to get the wrong idea. I like toast, toast is great, it's reliable and I'll be eating it for years. It isn't however cheese on toast, to talk of it as such is simply wrong and quite frankly a travesty.

welcome to my ignore list :)
