AMD THREADRIPPER VS INTEL SKYLAKE X

I have no idea.... i think Intel have developed somewhat of an insecurity complex. they seem to be shouting for attention a lot these days.

Lets just stick with what's current and coming, its all getting a bit messy.

For Intel its CoffeeLake for AMD its Zen2, right good, i can get my head round those.

So if we set aside value, and then compare the 1950X to the 7960X, you genuinely believe Thread Ripper is a better product than SKL-X? Are you convinced of this?

Considering we don't have any benchmarks yet we can't say for sure but the 7960X has a much lower base clock, Threadripper will likely win out in highly threaded applications. As is the story of AMD vs Intel at the moment, Intel will have better single core performance with AMD taking the crown for multithreaded.

It might be if the 7960X can't maintain its boost clocks and the power usage per core is similar to the 7900X. I think the 7960X might outperform the 1950X by few percent, but it won't be enough to outshine the X299 platform issues (pci lanes, vrm issues, Intels propensity to change socket when the wind changes direction etc) vs X399. That's before even thinking about cost.

Well, yes of course i do.

The 7960X is no faster than the 1950X, it uses a lot more power, runs a lot hotter and costs a lot more. (ignore that last bit if you like, it still matters) why do you think Intel cut the prices of this revision of HEDT chip in half compared with the last lot, price absolutely matters.

There is a MT Cinebench slide floating around somewhere with the 7960X on it, it scores the same as the 1950X.

The 7980X is also on it, that doesn't score a lot higher.

PS: on a singular package AMD have a lot more cores in the bag, a lot more than Intel.

You simply don't know what you're talking about, 100%. VRM issues do not exist until one draws enough current, which requires something like Prime (350-400w). Just don't use Prime, this is not a new revelation that's along with X299 specifically. PCIE lane issue, maybe you can elaborate there. Most people won't even come close to using 40+ lanes.

Point is, Humbug is waving his vicarious wand around once again without owning either product. Heck, not even either platform lol.

Oh, and the 7960X is faster, in practically every case. So define better. If you're going to make these quips regarding Intel running with their tails between their legs, best to get your facts straight first.

You are entitled to your opinions on me just as i am entitled to mine on CPU's, If you don't like what that is don't ask.

And don't ask me the same questions repeatedly, my answerers are not going to change, they are certainly not going to change to anything more palatable to you.

What? So now you're comparing Ryzen to Bulldozer? Not a great analogy there.

Humbug, might want to present these things in the form of an opinion, in that case.

I'm not comparing anything, we don't need to own a product to know it's **** lol.
I don't own half of the things I have an opinion on.
Not that it makes any difference if I did. Having a product doesn't make your opinion any more valid.

You own half of one, from that you can get an accurate feel for Threadripper, don't be shy posting your opinions, there are some people who would rather everyone just shut up about anything that isn't Intel.

?

Wouldn't you think you might know more about something if you own it? If you don't own it how does that make you know more just as much as the owner does? Cmon man. really?

Hey Gavin, owning a platform gives you experience on it, as well as understanding how it works. Maybe that's where you went wrong when you attacked Ian for posting memory results.

Scone had a ryzen months before any of us. He gets access to these things.

Oh wait.

He got it on release day like the rest of us.

And yet where you struggled with tuning memory, I did not. But lets not get into an argument about credibility here.

Looks like we could remove a lot of posts on this forum for all those who don't or haven't owned all the 1000's and 1000's of different bits of hardware.

Would be a pretty bare forum or some very skint people. On a plus side if we did we could single handily solve brexit :p
