AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Looks like I may not be getting any of these new cards now guys!!! I might be getting a new car instead and new gfx card next year when trie next gen models are out!!!

You guys enjoy your high framerates though, I'll enjoy high revs :p

There must be a reason why AMD put 2 connectors on the 4870, especially considering gddr5 uses less watts.

there may be a reason, but so far the 4850 is able to clock super high :) ...and I think that the chip is the limitation here, not the power delivery.

The reason it has 2 connectors is because it can use up to 160W and I believe the max for a single 6 pin connector is 150W.
I think you'll find that it's 75w via the 6pin PCI-E connector and 75w from the PCI-E socket itself. The use of a second PCI-E connector then ups the available power to 225w; ie 75+75+75=225w.

Aye, he was still correct. The 4850 can only draw up to 150W due to having just the 1 connector. The 4870 *can* draw up to 225W but it'll be more like 160W.

I was under the impression PCI-E 2.0 slots provided 150W through the motherboard...therefore if on a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard the total available to the card would be 150+75 or 225W...which should be enough even for massively overclocked and overvolted cards I would think.

Gurusan, sorry if I'm being ignorant, but, what are you using to overclock those 4850s if you're not using overdrive?
