AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

9800GTX is faster than the 3870X2 in most games.

20 fps at max.

If 4850 is faster than the 3870X2 then it would be up againt the 9800GTX, as you said and that would mean 4870 Vs the rest.

Looking at those numbers in the chart it would be 4850 Vs 9800GTX and 4870 inbetween GTX 260 & 280.

Overclock the 4870 and kick the crap out of the GTX 280 for half the price. Overclock the 4850 to 4870 and you have one for $100 less. :)

We will just have to wait and see for proper numbers to come out.

Looking at the numbers on what chart? Are you talking about the spec sheet?

If you had compared raw specs for r600 and G80 you would have expected (as we all did at the time) the r600 to be much faster. After all, it had far more shader piplines, higher theoretical FPU performance, and better memory bandwidth.

Also, you can't simply 'overclock the 4850 to 4870'. For one thing, it has different memory installed, as well as other differences.

Hmm Azza. If the X2 3870 is faster than the G80 GTX then where did you pull that the 9800GTX is faster than the X2?. Unless you're talking about small resolutions with no AA.

At small resolutions the CPU speed is more of a factor. Also, with the limited interface of the G92 GTX, at high resolution when you add AA the 256bit interface cripples with the 9800GTX in some titles.

So, when the G80 GTX is a faster card than the G92 GTX and the X2 3870 is faster than the G80 GTX, you are saying the 9800GTX is faster than the slowest part?.

Yep.

Dont see why not. Only thing that is different is the type of memory. Overclock the mem to a speed where there is no difference between the performance of that memory and the GDDR5 on the 4870 and should all be good. Both use the same cores just the 4750 is clocked lower. And the 4850 will come in different ram flavours. 256 and 512 prolly vs 512 and 1gb on the 4870.

I don't mind, I'm off sick so I need to be entertained :)

Get yourself one of those mobilty scooters, then you can be in work and entertained at the same time. :D

the uneccessarily large post award for the day definitely goes to you azza. Is your enter key bust?

I like spacing things out so it doesnt get confusing for people. Unlike some people on the forums who do not have any spaces, paragraphs and the like in their posts.

*looks at dmpoole*

Ati are saying the 4850 is about equal to the 9800GTX with the 4870 of course being faster.

so is the 4870 a weak mans product or simply just not worth upgrading over current cards?

It is impossible to tell as yet, on this form it went from being the return of jesus christ too someone farting at a funeral. Considering it is a mid range part, I dont see why anyone is getting miffed at the prospect of it ONLY being as quick as a 9800GTX (if not quicker). The data is open to interpritation, and drivers, apparantly there where claims the RV770 XT would beat a 260 GTX while undercuting it in price. Everything is speculation.

Just have to wait for the reviews/benchmarks, but its not looking good if AMD themselves say they are around 9800 GTX peformance, so id say neither are going to be worth it, as even the ancient 8800 GTX and Ultra are faster than the 9800 GTX lol.
