AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Can somebody tell me which big game or games will be requiring
more than an 8800 gt for 1680-1050 anytime soon ?

Thats also my point exactly, and nobody replies every time i ask it.

Crysis & farcry 2 are the only games lets face it.

kind of a ridiculous upgrade just for 1-2 games, i reckon its better to wait for the refreshes later this year if they are gonna be much quicker as it will handle later games better also.

Really, there isn't any, you've got it right. Farcry 2, and Crysis, and for all we know Farcry 2 might be much more optimised than Crysis is now. Crysis really is a dog of a game to run, I think the fact that it gets barely any performance increase with dual GPUs shows that it's hardly the best optimised of games.

I doubt max settings vs. max settings Far Cry 2 will run faster than Crysis as Far Cry 2 is also implementing more effects and such... We can always hope though.

I think it's just that crytek doesn't have the best reputation for optimised games. There's games now that look a lot nicer than farcry, but run much better too. Farcry still requires decent hardware to run completely maxed out at high res. Games made using the UE3 look amazing, not quite in the league of crysis (but they're improving all the time), yet they run much faster, that's what I mean when the performance to graphics ratio of crysis is pretty bad compared to most if not all other games. Sure it looks amazing, but all high will get you what? 20fps? Where as UE3 games maxed with AA and AF, you could be pulling in excess of 100fps, and the graphics are still fantastic.

there's something ABOUT being on that island in crysis, you can smell it in-game, its sorta like where the future of gaming is at, imo I'm glad crytek did what they did and that is produce a very advanced environment

Maybe for the same reason as me and a few others i know because has had a bad time with nvidia drivers making an otherwise stable system crash and bsod all the time it's why i will never touch nvidia again.

Yup driver support, no chance of me getting a GT200 or any other Nvidia card, GT200's are only going to get one set of drivers, as Nvidia will do what they always do, stick a set up on release day just to get them up and running, so at least those cards are detected by games, then they'll ******* for 6 months +.

I feel sorry for the 9800 owners, as their driver support (which they did of it lol) gets canned when they roll out the GT200's, so they'll be hunting around for all the leaked GT200's drivers that have been modded to work on their cards, its even worse for 8800 GTS 512mb owners,as they've only had 2x sets of drivers since their cards were launched, the 169.21's added support for them in December, and the other set was the 175.16's that were released the other ******* week, oh my mistake, they've also had 1x set of beta's as well, the 174.74's, but come on, what a ******* joke, so theres no way i'll be buying a GT200, as they are gona be crap with no drivers, as by the time those get 1x set, ATi's 4000 series will have about 6-7 official WHQL sets, and those sets won't be just for the 4000's, as their drivers support all their cards, heres something to make you laugh, the old ATi AGP 9800pro is better supported than Nvidia's 5/6/7/8/9 and what will soon be GT200 series cards. :D

Just had a look, and guess what the latest drivers are for the old AGP 9800pro, yup thats right, the Catalyst 8.5 WHQL's, says it all, now come on Nvidia series owners, does that not nark you off, that an ancient old AGP card thats been out of production for years is still getting an official WHQL driver every single month without fail, did me.

Lots of ranting about drivers

Whilst I completely agree with you on their shoddy driver support, unfortunately their cards are still likely to be the fastest around, bad driver support or not.

nVidia work on the assumption that the bulk of users won't get any problems with the drivers, so they get the fastest gaming performance around and **** the other people who have problems.

This business model seems to be working pretty well for them.

They don't need to customize the drivers for each card because they are a unified architecture, all the previous improvements etc work for the 8800GTS owners so it doesnt matter that only 2 drivers have been released since 8800GTS

They wil be, as thats all Nvidia cares about, speed, speed, speed.

**** poor from a gamers persepective though aint it, what about all the latest up-coming games, we've got Grid just coming out, theres the new Stalker on the way, theres actually a decent amount coming in the next few months, now can you see the old 175.16's working problem free in all those upcoming games, i for one can't, as drivers need to come out all the time with constant fixes for the latest games etc... :)

The new Stalkers due end of August, far Cry 2 is god knows, Alan wake etc... now id be ******* amazed if Nvidia know 100% now, that all those games run flawlessly on their 175.16's.:p

Doe's anyone know if these 4850 and 70's are going to be available in good quantities on release day yet ?
