AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

i had 32 bit untill last month (using WHQL drivers from nvidia)

i then switched to 64 bit.

everyday around 4 bsods all due to nvidia

then i moved back to 32, tried dome betas, bsods. then back to WHQL, and not one.

for 10months i never had a bsod in vista, untill i got nvidia 64 drivers, and then 32 betas.

god how i do hate nvidia drivers.
 
How much better is Crossfire over SLI exactly? whats the efficiency ratio?

i am quite tempted to go ATI to be honest, the price is much better on your pocket.. but i want top notch performance :(

OUCH! I know how that feels, I was getting constant BSODs with my 3870X2 and I couldn't figure out what it was for a while, I basically couldn't use my PC because of it. It wasn't drivers though, card was faulty, but it's still annoying non the less. :o
 
Well I just got a cracking deal on an 8800GT so I've now just picked up one of them and got myself a new NZXT Hush case....looks like I will be awaiting the next next generation! 5series anyone? lol
 
If so that's a damn shame... I wonder how much work it would hae been to change it back... shouldn't have been too hard unless it was an integral part of the architecture? To be honest i'm not too clued up on that side of things, I just thought AA was something that was more of a side-issue of an architecture than one crucial to how the entire thing is structured.

If they don't go into that weeks one (as they may think that 'This Week Only' falls to close, but you never know), then they will appear in there the following Wednesday when it changes, as it always happens, happened with the 9800 GTX's, GX2's etc..., was hell on on here when it happened to x1900 owners to, they were livid when a couple of days later those were put in the sale, and i didn't blame them, when the 'This Week Only' comes around, in they'll go, so i wouldn't lash out on release day is my advice. :)

I've been around here long enough to confirm that.. always happens.

Not always a huge drop but it happens, its a bit like shops price establishing, you know those sofas are only in 1 store at full price so they can 50% it for you ;)

Well it was something to do with the architecture they chose and it hasnt really changed going from 29xx to 38xx! If the same architecture is chosen for the 48xx series of cards then we will see the same problems....sure there will be increased performance overall but the results with AA will probably stay behind that of NVidia's. The driver teams at ATi have however worked extremely hard and have pulled a good bit of performance back under AA conditions so I remain hopeful that they will have good performance under AA with the 4series.

What I do however feel is that it seems like yet another refresh again by ATi and its not really what I want to see. We still are not seeing true next gen performance from either camp but it does seem more likely NVidia may be the first there with the 260GTX and 280GTX which sound....on paper....to be extremely capable GPU's but we may have to wait a little longer(6months or so) to see this massive leap. I hope I'm wrong but the way things sound right now for ATi's cards I suspect it wont be from their camp.

7800GTX to X1900XT/XTX maybe wouldn't be considered by all but a few will have. Capable HDR + AA, better IQ by far, gamers on bigger resolution screens. Plus if the 7800GTX failed (which a few actually did) then the X1900 would look more desirable.

I did read an article not too long ago that suggested that Nvidia's hardware works best for the generation of games that are based around that card at the time where as ATI's hardware was meant to give better performances through the newer titles. Now when it comes to the X800 for this then it's debatable about this as it can't run SM3. However, in games that both cards could run, the newer titles favoured ATI (from what i read as there were a few benchmarks I think, though not sure).

Although it's completely useless information for the majority of people reading this but it would be useful for those who tend to hang on to their hardware for longer than we do. I just searched for the article and came up with nothing :(. I also think that G80 isn't a part of this trend either. I just think it applied to 6 series and back. Maybe even 7 series. I can't remember :o.

Well my mate had 7800gtx sli computer with not to bad a rig i then bought my rig as in spec with x1900xtx and my pc with that card was around as fast as his sli setup going to a 1900 was definately a good upgrade to a 7800 as in 3dmark 2005 i was no slower than him with the one card. I did have c2d and he had a p4 3.0ghz but to me that would not have crippled his machine to much to make our scores even.

Pre-Computex 08: They will do it the right way

We've learned that RV770XT and Pro won't do Full Scene Anti Aliasing via Shaders. Developers hated it but RV670's design flaw was responsible for it.


RV770XT and PRO will end up significantly faster, especially with FSAA compared to RV670 generation. The numbers should be higher than you usually see from generation to generation, but we don’t know more details about it at press time.

RV670 was improved and fixed R600, or should we say R600 done right, whereas RV770 is an improvement of the stuff that ATI has implemented.
