If they are only around the 1070/80 performance, then their dead in the water, as Nvidia have just about all the market, a card is needed to get them switching.

I thought Vega was going to be a "family" of GPU's though?

I was going to get a gtx1070 to replace my gtx970 until I saw the price they were released at (nearly £100 more than I paid for my 970)

If AMD release a Vega card that offers 1070 performance for a more realistic budget such as £270 (the budget i'd set myself as an upgrade) then I'd definitely be interested

If they are only around the 1070/80 performance, then their dead in the water, as that wont get them market share back will it, as Nvidia own the market, and their owners wont want to switch will they, whcih is what AMD need a card for.

And even for the stragglers Nvidia can cut prices substantially and cut margins to nothing if need be. AMD won't win a price war being late, especially if Vega requires HBM2 to be competitive.

that's a very unrealistic expectation, based on the price of the 480 cards.

yeah but I expect only big Vega will have that and will be very expensive indeed, possibly more than the 1080. The other Vega I expect to not sport that memory and be considerably cheaper.

There are obviously two types of Vega based cards - the XBox Scorpio seems to be using GDDR5 or GDDR5X and rumours hint it probably is Vega based.

Going from the past few consoles we have seen desktop parts which seems to share key specs with the console GPUs. The Bonaire GPU(HD7790/R7 260X) had the same number of shaders as the XBox One GPU,the PS4 PRO GPU had the same number of shaders as Polaris 10 and seems to be of the same generation,so I would expect one of the Vega GPUs to be related to the XBox Scorpio GPU if only to save on R and D costs.

:D

And no surprise who it was either ;) :p :D

That's because they trust **you**. It's one thing to get friends to reach out to you or me (supposedly because we are more knowledgable) to make a PC and another to order an Alienware desktop.

Also, it's not info, it's my personal opinion.

Yes, that was pretty obvious ...

A 1070-perf AMD card at 1070 prices would not sell very well.

But then I could be wrong. Because I said that a 480 with 290 perf selling at 290 prices was crap, and that sold well regardless.

I would personally consider 1070 perf at anything more than £300 to be a real disappointment. But £350-£400 could be the asking price regardless.

Looking at it more, i think that could be VOLTAGE, as the Radeon signs covering the end of it, and the bottom half is talking about poor voltage, looks like there could be a GE on the end, plus the flash symbol like on the left.

Please do keep up Loadsa :D

am I the only one who finds that ad really poor taste? and yes I would say the same if it was used by NVidia.

I find the whole video - no correction - the entire rebellion/uprising concept around which they've built up their marketing since Polaris to be in poor taste.

Looks like we're going to have to put up with it for Vega as well...

It's amazing that a company that's been around as long as AMD has, still has not the faintest clue about what constitutes a good marketing/ PR campaign.

Mind-boggling, even.

Well, it's not like I went our and did a poll across all schools in the UK, compiled the data into an Excel and wrote article about my findings, is it?

It's just what I get from the reaction of my son and his friends and their older siblings for getting an RX480 (when 'I'm supposed to know better' on account of writing software for a living).

Which is also by the way my son's problem seeing as how he really wanted a 1060-3GB instead, but how do I justify that purchase to myself?

I can understand the concept, especially at the same time trying to push the GPUOPEN, however I agree.
