Most of us are the same in the tech world JD and waiting is hard for us and this is why I worry for AMD. We have fast become a culture of 'throw it away and get another', even though half the time, what we have is fine. I can see a few people who have sat on the fence for a while saying "**** it" and buying an alternative to Vega. Mind you, you can always sell it on when Vega launches and go that route if you so wish.

I love how the comments in this thread change on a daily basis, from doom and gloom to epic AMD revival, just based on peoples opinion videos found online with no solid data or nothing. It's bloody laughable. Just read through hthe last 2 pages or so, just from one 'Alreeeet guys hows it goin' opinion video. Nothing has changed on the card, no new info from AMD has come to light, and all of a sudden it's gone from a great release - to the end of AMD again lol.

Spot on Gregster. I had said to myself and even proven it to myself that I didn't need a new card but I still caved in. When I did, Nvidia were the only option but as you alluded to at the end, I had the thought of selling it on before I bought it. Not saying that I will, but I have the option to. I wonder what drives the impulse to as you say, throw away and buy another. It's hard to battle or maybe I'm just weak :D.

My 290x is very audible though, runs 91-95'C @ 75% fan at a mediocre 1075/1400 as I need it for 100FPS-120FPS for my monitor. Reference is horrible but I do have DT770s which help with the noise. I need a better solution though and I deserved a treat so this will do until April-June :).

It's speculation though and it's just a bit of fun. I thought something major had changed but yeah it was only that video makers opinion which swayed the feeling in the thread so I get you but again, it's a bit of fun wondering what's going to happen with performance and pricing.

@ erazor51 you have identical system to me!( i have msi 290x gaming) What upgrade path are you taking if any? Getting 2 impatient sitting here watching videos on a 3770k possibly bottlenecking a gtx 1080 lol.

PS i didnt know i could install windows 10 on the p8z77v pro?

Normal run of the day talk for anything AMD bud, you know this :D But yer, ins and outs more than a brothel in this thread :p

same board and cpu as me and windows 10 running fine

See I don't think they'll do that. I think Vega will be priced accordingly to the market and not to the consumers wishes and then it will be a price war between the two.

Ultra high end is usually bragging rights though Doom. Those sales are not what makes the most money but they do help show a strong front for those buying low-mid range and higher so it all helps really. AMD have a good opportunity to shake things up like they have before on price/performance. I hope so as it would be nice to see not to mention beneficial for the market to stir up some competition.

6AM I say I'm waiting for Vega, 3 hours and a bit later, I've got a Zotac amp extreme 1070 arriving on Monday. Man of my word!. :(

At least you picked one of the best with a 5 year guarantee, I'm sure you've already heard this but you need to register within a time limit for the full 5 year guarantee. So don't delay, do it today.

Oh the agony of waiting!! Humans are not very good at waiting, it seems - maybe something to do with survival requiring instant and decisive responses!!

What AMD are doing is causing us huge stress (tongue in cheek). I mean I have a requirement to upgrade, and the darn Vega rumours are causing conflict. Do we go Nvidia now....or do we wait until Vega becomes a reality...but that could be 6 months away and still not beat Nvidia's current offering - and don't get me started on the next round of tech...with may only be another 6 months after that!!

Don't these companies understand the angst they are causing - arghhhhh!!

:D That's what swayed me, also the cooler. Thanks for the tip, I'll do it first thing after I get my hands on it on Monday.

Some people are silly like that, I'm pretty sure it'll be the card we all want and hope it to be.
Edit: Oh No! I read it's slower than a 1080, It's all over for AMD.

Edit 2: Hold on, I saw it outperforming a 1080 in DX11, AMD FTW.

Edit3: Damn! A little overclock pushes the 1080 beyond what Vega can manage, Nvidia are burying AMD.

EDIT4: Now it's targeting the TXP which must be true as I read it on the Internet.

Edit5: Doh!

If someone is good with photoshop they could do a great pic of the famous image from the film 2001 of the chimps throwing up an AMD graphics card.:D

Waiting for Vega and Ryzen

3770k OC'ed won't be a bottleneck with anything higher than 1080p res.

Yes it's fully compatible and I think all drivers are picked up by windows 10 anyway so you don't have to worry.

I don't think opinion has changed on a whim. I think it's more a case of the hype train was boarded, enthusiasm generated, but then analysis was done, everything considered and realities came to light. It was unrealistic in the first place for anyone to think VEGA was going to be a 1080Ti killer, but most people expected it earlier than May. That in itself is a let down. Add to that analysis which strongly suggests they've already shown the card at its near best, plus further analysis which suggests its technical limitations (i.e it's not a magic superpower card from the Gods), and you are left with the almost inevitable conclusion that come May we will have a 1080 comparable card a year after Nvidia's offering... which they'll have bettered by then with the 1080Ti. Once you stand back and look at that bigger picture, it is no surprise the hype train has derailed.

I for one don't think it's the end of AMD, but Nvidia's dominance is all but guaranteed to continue at the top tier, and along with that, sky high prices. The only way that was ever going to change was if AMD came out swinging and knocked them from their lofty perch. It's abundantly clear that won't be happening now. VEGA will sell, and sell well, many will be happy... but AMD are happy to settle for a distant second behind Nvidia, they just want a slightly bigger piece of the pie, which they'll get.

Ok you have our interest... what do you know that we dont know, that would have stopped us buying a 1070? (bought 1070 Amp Extreme at end of Nov to replace my R9 290, missing Freesync badly now though!)

If you knew what I knew about Volta, you wouldn't look in the Vega thread ever again (well according to Dave down the Pub anyways) :D
