Everyone is getting their hopes up that it will be awesome but deep down inside know it will be pants because it's AMD :D

Not much is know just yet, a few leaks here and there. Think there's a first show on the 28th this month.

I don't think it will be pants because it is AMD. At the very least it will be 1080 performance. But I think it will be better than that.

And there in lies the issue. Looks fairly likely Nvidia are going to drop the 1080ti three months before you can even buy Vega and will be 20%-40% faster than a 1080 depending on resolution and game and then finally AMD limp to the market with a card only as fast as last years 1080.

I have always previously bought bang for buck and have owned lots of AMD cards over the years (more than Nvidia cards tbh) but I have found that even if the AMD card is faster people will always buy the Nvidia card if they are the same money therefor AMD will have to sell this card for no more than half way between a 1070 and 1080 price. If its the same money as a 1080 then game over. People who are prepared to pay that price will have bought a 1080 in the last year and those that havent yet may as well buy the 1080ti and gain the extra performance unless that is a stupid price.

There's a lot of assumption in what you just said Greebo. Who says it will be "only as fast as last years 1080"?

I personally think it'll be aiming a fair bit higher than that.

Just what people seem to be saying. I hope its faster, much faster and cheaper and competes with the 1080ti. But I had high hope for the last two releases by AMD and was disappointed. i even own a freesync monitor lol.

I keep thinking AMD are brilliant and getting new tech to market and Nvidia just go for brute force. I would expect that this new card of AMD will keep improving year after year whereas the 1080 is pretty much what you get from day one is it. Look how the 290x keeps going. I only recently got rid of mine.

I don't see how they could be happy with "only" as fast as the 1080 being that I am sure that a simple 4096 core Polaris would come close to matching it (though I know things like shader count doesn't scale linearly). That, plus more efficient shaders, plus tons of new tech, plus a likely clock increase and I can't see how it wouldn't be a fair bit quicker than a 1080.

I understand I might be setting myself up to take a fall though!

Indeed. Many ignore that RX480 is only 2304 shaders and any polaris generation card with 4096 and gddr5x vram could out perform the gtx1080. Huh RX480 CF beats the 1080 at many games while it has gimped vram.

Let alone Vega with new more powerful core architecture and all the other tech coming with.

We have already seen vega getting 70fps in doom at 4k using drivers that are not optimised for it,and we dont know what clock speed it was running at.
So i dont get where some people keep saying vega will be same as 1080 or a bit slower.
Can the gtx 1080 get 70 fps in doom at 4k ?

Some even think it will just about match the 1070. Amusingly bemusing :p

Wouldnt that put it about 10% or so faster than the Titan X Pascal? I cant see Nvidia doing that can you.....unless they know something we don't and are more than a bit worried ;)

I still remember "it;s an overclockers dream" :p
...Yeah and I still remember GTX970 4GB VRAM :p Touche
