Listen you don't even know what sort of performance VEGA can pump out LOL... I'll tell you right now!! Nvidia is shaken to cut prices so much this isn't the Nvidia Way!!

Either 1. Nvidia have all a sudden had a change of heart or 2. They know what sort of performance VEGA can pump out!

If you think AMD is DOA you very wrong! They is competition too be had and and that is a good thing for us all.
VEGA at 1080 speed and at competitive price will sell and i'll be buying...

It is due to Vega's impending launch but not out of fear. They were due to do this regardless and simply want to mine that market segment first. Why compete for new sales at an inevitable incoming shift in $/perf. Sure they could have maintained the status quo eeked out more profit on a handful of customers for another month buying at their launch set prices before dropping. But what matters to them is the numbers on their financial statements and their market share and sales numbers. Also it doesn't matter if AMD beat them in value or performance as its a tough sell to ask a customer to move on so soon from their newly purchased high value product.

of course it matters if amd beat them on price/performance, not everyone will buy nvidia cards just yet.

Not in the context of my post (buyers of price dropped Pascals). You would be hard pressed to convince someone who had spent $500 on a 1080 to purchase a Vega card with +10% performance for $400 whether 2 or 6 months later. They will wait for the next round.

Geforece is generic while Vega is an architecture, so no.

Well no, Vega was a codename/architecture and they have just said that is the name of the new cards. Dumping the name Radeon, and pushing the name Vega may be instrumental if they want to succeed with the marketing. Intel did it with Pentium, dump and moved to Core after the Pentium 4/D trashed what once used to be a respected brand.

Why do you think they've dumped the Radeon name?

They've simply gone with RX Vega instead of RX ??? (digits) just like they did with the R9 Fury. It's still Radeon

Someone asked how they could then have Vega 10 & Vega 11, since they's then have the same name. You could add an X again, so Radeon RX Vega X, but then the next ones would be Radeon RX Vega XYZ, it just starts to get silly.

Also, I was not saying they had, I was saying it is a genuine option in order to renew the branding, for high performance gaming so they may have a two tiered name system Vega for very high, and Radeon for middle to lower, a-al Duron/Athlon etc.

Changing the branding a developing a name such a Vega that was associated with great performance (if it happens) would be utilised by the likes of Sony/Microsoft in the consoles - Powered by VEGA!!! :)

It is like saying when they choose Fury, they dumped Radeon. No. Vega just replaces Fury. Simple. RX replaced R9.

So it will be Radeon RX Vega :D

AMDs top end cards are now Premium Branded named cards like Nvidias Titan, so it makes perfect sense, RX Vega follows on from their first Premium card, the R9 Fury, their next Premium card will be RXI <insert name here>.

Youd be suprised mate, lots of people upgrade their GPU because they only understand high fps, without realising their 1080p 60hz screen is actually inhibiting them from using the full power of that card.

I completely forgot that of the many people who have GPUs much more powerful than a 980, not so many people have monitors beyond the 1080p60. That said, not many people have expensive GPUs, maybe the numbers are closer than we thought?

Regardless, if this actually does happen, my faith in humanity's intelligence drops lower. There really is no point buying an expensive GPU for it to be bottlenecked by the screen. At least I have an excuse to upgrade owning a 1440p144Hz monitor (and a 4k TV downstairs). There really isn't a GPU that can manage to consistently do 144fps on 1080p, let alone 1440p. Heck, not even 90fps at 1440p. Thus I'm hoping either Vega or 1080ti does the deal, I'm itching to upgrade. Preferably AMD, since Nvidia drivers have been a pain over the past year and I'd like to support competition in this industry.

The 1070/1080 price drop makes things harder for AMD launching a year after Nvidia. If Vega beats 1080 a bit, it needs to be £450 at maximum for the best card for it to be able to compete. Otherwise, a 1080ti beater (which I don't think exists) would need to be under £600 for AMD to win the price-to-performance contest.

fair enough mate :) ( taken out of context)

I am getting close to adding him to ignore list. But I would rather not have to do that, only person I think I ever did that with with some guy called toaster or something. He got banned from the GPU section not so long after anyway lol.

It is fine that people have different tastes/opinions or make jokes, but his is not that. He just likes to come try wind people up with his drivel.
You don't use the ignore list! Woah, that is risky. Must be entertaining at times too.

April is too soon I bet, its March now and they couldnt tell us anything ?

not so many people have monitors beyond the 1080p60
Look at the valve survey for details on that I guess (i couldnt find it actually )

Isnt this why freesync is a game changer because for the average person it solves this whole sticking point without fuss or expense

AMD Radeon RX 500 in April
Let’s start with the launch date. According to Heise.de, AMD is planning to unveil it’s RX 500 series in April. The launch will be split into two parts, each for different performance segment.

That said, on April 4th Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 570 will be available for sale. A week later, on April 11th AMD will unveil its Radeon RX 560 and Radeon RX 550 series. All cards, except RX 550, are most likely rebranded from Radeon RX 400 series.

AMD Radeon RX Vega will not be released in April, which somehow aligns with our initial information, that Radeon 500 series are expected in May. So in other words, expect Radeon RX 500 rebrands in April and Vega a month or two later.

Okay, but let’s go back to RX 500, here’s what we’ve learned. The Radeon RX 580 will be rebranded from RX 480. The new model will receive a moderate clock speed bump to 1340 MHz. That’s 74 MHz more than RX 480. Meanwhile, the RX 570 is said to be 38 MHz faster than RX 470. Of course, those are just the reference clocks and they might be changed as we get closer to the launch. Both RX 580 and RX 570 will be available in 4GB and 8GB variants.

In entry-level segment, we expect Radeon RX 560 to be rebranded from Radeon RX 460 with 1024 Stream Processors (but that’s unconfirmed). We do however have information that RX 560 may be clocked at 1287 MHz (87 MHz above RX 460).

There is one more card mentioned by Heise, which is RX 550. This model is most likely equipped with Polaris 12, a new low-end GPU, which is just as mysterious as Vega11.
