AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

Why are people expecting Vega to be a disappointment?

Because it wasn't announced yesterday with stats etc.
And you will find are exactly the same people who bash AMD back in December of not doing the same with Ryzen. Just only showing some machines using it and the new name of the Cpu.

Same happened yesterday. Raja showed us what the Vega is capable of, where they focus on and the name of the product.
2 1/2 months down the line, there is going to be an event launching the product.

imho from yesterday we learn that
a) going to be really powerful, from live rendering of 4k that scene in India

b) very efficient, with the cache tech. And if you see the video with the Deus ex, the left was a full blown vega with cache off, on the right the same gpu with 2gb vram and the cache on. Both rendering at 4k with max out settings.

c) what left me puzzled, is how the liquidsky going to have Vega gpu servers running on March 14th, when the gpu isn't on the market yet.

So we should be seeing low-end GTX 1080s for £450 thanks to the price drop. Interesting to see how AMD will compete with this when Vega comes out. Ryzen gives me hope they'll try to undercut nVidia a bit but I can't really see it happening. I guess it depends if the 1070 gets a price cut too - right now there's a pretty big gap between it and the RX 480.

Not sure what to expect with the 1070s tbh. Normally I'd expect a price drop for them as well, as they've been out a while as well. I keep thinking about 970 and how the price stayed around the same level for a long time though. I'd like to see them come down though. That would force AMD to compete as well and in the end we will all get cheaper cards. May not be to AMD's liking but hey it's their own fault for being late to the party.

I don't think they're finished either but they've surely shot themselves in the foot. They've already lost a lot of sales as a lot of people got 1070s and 1080s and now I expect a good chunk of those who were still waiting to actually go and buy a 1080TI simply because it will actually be available rather than be a distant promise. More sales lost for AMD. If they manage to release this Vega eventually I am sure they'll get some sales, but is it going to be enough? We'll see.

To be fair, this wasn't a product launch, but a general chat to developers about future tech, products, software alliances, etc. There's no point claiming AMD is doomed, because very little has changed from a couple of days ago. We still have very little info on Vega.

I do find it hard to believe that this relaunch of AMD has turned out a great CPU in the form of Ryzen, and then they are going to screw the pooch on Vega. AMD have been working for years to re-invent themselves with a best of both GPU and CPU. It's their unique selling point, it's the one thing that neither Nvidia nor Intel can do with products in the both the CPU and GPU space.

AMD launched a new t shirt for their GPU department while Nvidia cut the prices for their GPU, improved memory speed and launched the fastest GPU at reasonable price. Both are GPU company ,however, both vision and approach is on different direction.
It sums up both events and presentation. Some people will love to buy new t-shirt and some people will love to buy beast GPU.

Yup, bloody hilarious! :D

RTGs an hr and half, gone in 60 secs :p

Ive just watched that Ti video that was shown, RTG, gone in 60 seconds, an hr and a half, just destroyed in a 1 minute video by Nvidia :p
As i said both companies are going into the different vision and direction. AMD believes that t-shirt is more important than giving some information about GPU and Nvidia thinks totally opposite of this.

This is not true. Nvidia gave info as launch is imminent. AMD clearly is still a couple of months away yet. Why did Nvidia not give info back in January like everyone thought they would? Because they were not about to launch...

Please stop talking out of your backside sir :(

Yeah, RTGs gone into the clothing business now :D
Not sure if trollin or you buy what he is selling. lol :p

You can pre order the shirt if you want. AMD will be starting to sell that t-shirt this week. At least their GPU division is releasing something rather than nothing.

So your issue is that a cut down version of nvidias current crop of cards is coming out before a totally new top range from AMD whose release has been known for ages as months away?

I have no issue with AMD and i never expect anything from their GPU division. They are simply best at making them self fools and they give reason to increase Nvidia GPU sales in just 1.3 hrs of their presentation.

Youd be suprised mate, lots of people upgrade their GPU because they only understand high fps, without realising their 1080p 60hz screen is actually inhibiting them from using the full power of that card. I bet theres numerous people running 1080p screens on a 1080gtx, and will cite that this enables them to run everything on the absolute max at that resolution.

Yea, 60hz screens and 1080p is so 2005.

I swear that this is one of the worse and most pointless presentation i have ever seen from tech and sales point of view. The presentation and keeping fans till last min was only about unveiled the upcoming AMD VEGA shirt.

Well Raja tried, he said, this is not a product launch..for Vega.
He should have had a card in hand and said, not today.
developers I am sure was fine with the twitch as it was aimed towards them.

I wasn't.
seems amd people in the PR department let Raja do as he please which btw isnt working as he really difficult to understand when he talks, I should send him to learn pronouncement better as its a world thing.
overuse of words like excitement, I am really excited to be here?
seriously, telling people about how you feel wont work.
having 3 kids playing Prey with Vega and Ryzen would have been a better choice anytime of the day.
and let two of them stand behind the third one asking for their turns, thats how you can show excited.

Vega is fine for 4k, question is price and how it stands up vs previous cards.

Price need to be below $600 and sad thing for AMD is that Nvidia drooped GTX 1080 price to $500 ,which makes it more worse situation for AMD.

How about you reply to what I said rather than troll? I already made it clear I have no interest in the shirt, yet you say that?

Best case scenario in my mind for Vega is to beat stock 1080 by a small margin. Silly to expect more.
Thus it must undercut 1080 in price. No more stupid high launch prices of Fury.
