I was thinking more about cooling really. Do we know how probable this card (that vertical memory even) will run hot enough that it comes with a liquid cooler not heatpipes + fan as is more usual for stock

Nvidia really need to come out with a statement about what we're currently hearing regarding Ryzen/multithreaded performance and DX12 on their GPU's.

If they said we are aware of issues and are working on improving our DX12 driver this would go along way. Maybe it was no coincidence that Nvidia came out with their 'DX12' driver shortly before Ryzens launch!! They knew something was incoming!

The problem is I doubt they can do much in drivers. What is required is new hardware.

Otherwise a whole host of Ryzen buyers and Nvidia customers are going to be defecting to the Red team very very soon.

If Vega doesn't happen in May and drops in June.... it's going to be a very long wait!

I really think there needs to be more testing before we consider it a real issue. Too many knee jerk reactions and crappy news sites trying to get web hits by sensationalizing potential issues. (Look at the FMA3 problem that wasn't really that big a deal but some news sites tried to make out it was terrible. Good on AMD for patching quickly).

Would love to see some more in-depth analysis of dx12. How many games are dx12 now? Most AAA titles?

AMD can suck my ******* balls! Hope they sell as few Vega as they did Fury tbqfh, they deserve it! Get a god ******* damn decent marketing department you ****ers! :p

Am I regretting hemming myself into Freesync?? No ****ing ****! :D

I think we should overreact and bash Nvidia and accuse them of sabotaging AMD, *then* we find out whether it's a real issue or not. Have you not internetted before?

I'm not expecting a liquid cooling situation like with Fury X. That was a 600mm² card at the very end of the 28nm generation pushing things basically as far as they could go(or AMD could go...).

Vega is supposed to bring efficiency improvements over Polaris, along with having a supposedly improved process as a basis. And it's unlikely to much more than 450-500mm². Unless HBM requires specific, special cooling, I cant imagine an air cooler wouldn't be enough.

The Nvidia DX12 driver thing is a problem and is clearly hampering Ryzen in DX12, but it also hampers Intel as well (not as much). It's not like Nvidia and Intel are best buddies, so it's not deliberate by Nvidia. Why would they cripple their own DX12 GPU performance, especially considering they are not in the x86 Windows CPU market?

Let's not forget though, in the eternal logic of Gregster, if AMD can do ANYTHING to alleviate the issue, then it's definitely their fault, no doubt orbargunent. As per the X79 and AMD GPU issues.

Could be worse - aslong as you have a decent GPU atleast FastSync should/might work, if you'd gone G-Sync with an AMD GPU you'd not even have that option.
