Me.
Tried 1440p and went is 'that it' just about the most overrated gaming purchase I've ever had, back to 1080p I went for the higher fps/IQ.

Indeed they do. And people who say otherwise either did not see a proper calibrated 4K monitor or need to go specsaversI never got on with 1440p.. i went back to 1080p but i saw a large panel 4k monitor and was like "woooooow" it isn't ideal for fps like standard size monitors running 1080p 144hz but my god games look amazing... Even playing dead space 3 at 4k was like playing a new game.
Not sure how you went higher IQ by going back to 1080p
Might even get a 24" to get better ppi.
Yeah, that is an individual preference thing. I personally sit quite close to my monitor so 24" is fine for me. Same for ultrawide really, it does more for some than others. I may try ultrawide again once they eventually come out at 4K resolution, by then there maybe better support for it also. Plus graphics cards to power it. Star Citizen would likely look glorious on such a monitor. Right now though I prefer the higher IQ of 4K over 1440p ultrawide.I couldn't go with a 24", It sounds like the equivalent to using one of the old 14" portable telly's we had growing up, I think 32" is the minimum I'd go with 4k,
That said after having 34" 1440p ultrawide I'll try to hang on until we can get a 4k Ultrawide with G-sync or Freesync 2.
For now I just need to get my hands on Vega so I can get on with my backlog of AAA titles I haven't played yet.
Who is 'they' here? The average person? Why does this keep being brought up? Does the average person care about the difference between a GTX660Ti and a 1080Ti? Nope. Yet I wouldn't ever dream of saying that the difference isn't game-changing, especially here on a hardware enthusiast board. But if they barely notice the difference, does it matter? All these technologies slowly increase image quality, but few are a big step change. 48fps films are an image quality improvement but most still prefer 24fps.
I feel like 1440 @144hz is a great compromise. >60hz is great, no doubt about it, and the sheer space 1440 gives you over 1080 is enough. I feel like 4k is great for games if you've got them grunts, but not so much for "productivity".

You guys enjoy your 1440p and 4k monitors yet I could *equally* argue that those aren't really notable upgrades over 1080p by the exact same reasoning. Because the 'average person' wouldn't think so. You guys enjoy your 27"+ monitors, but those dont really matter because 'the average person' wouldn't really care. It's not a good argument and it's absolutely *bizarre* hearing it on a board like this.
I dont get this pushback. Well-done HDR is awesome. And I think a lot of y'all trying to downplay it will feel silly as things develop and it becomes the new standard. Maybe when more monitors get it, you'll stop pretending it doesn't matter. It's not just some little step up.
As for 24fps vs 48fps, it's a fairly different situation. For one, it's not about image quality. And there are legit arguments that it detracts from 'cinematic quality' of video, especially movies. My opinion is split on it. I greatly appreciate the lack of jerkiness with panning shots and whatnot, but I also feel the 'soap opera effect' does rear its ugly head and makes certain things look a lot more fake.
Lovely, thank you
