AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

When Vega does come out it's likely to be around 1070 and 1080 performance, by going off history, and then Volta will come out and destroy it.

Yes, it most likely will.
It also most likely will cost £699-1499 looking at nvidia pricing over the last year...

I don't see AMD releasing £800 card for gaming market so yes, a £700+ card will likely be faster than what's most likely to be a £300-500 card.

If top vega comes out at 1080 perf then AMD should just drop the discrete consumer gpu market.
Or just give up on high end all together and also compute and deeplearning etc... Some people just are astonishing to believe Vega will just be on par with 1080. It's certainly going to be faster.

Are you trying to say that this will be the first quantum GPU?
Haha very good :D

i sold 2 of my fury x's from my spare gaming rig last month (on a selling site) you would be amazed how much people will pay for fury x's.... i still have loads of people (on the site i use) asking me if i will sell my other two.
They are very good cards bud. Better at 4K but limited by the 4GB sadly but still capable cards.

This is my problem....

The fact I want to upgrade monitor as well makes my choice of GPU significant.

Looking backwards AMD's track record with high end gaming isn't good over the last 2-4 years. Whilst Nvidia have continuously and consistently innovated.

A Gysnc/Freesync ties me in to that ecosystem. So you would think Nvidia would be a better bet moving forward for GPU advancements.

BUT.... AMD have done well with Ryzen. Have they turned a corner? Will Vega be something awesome? Most importantly can AMD stay consistent in the high end market and feed us GPU's at a steady pace?

Vega means nothing if it will take them 2+ years to give us a successor.

We get something major from Nvidia yearly don't we?

I hope so... but I doubt it. It did take them 5 years to get Ryzen out the door.

When did the Fury X launch?

At the moment I'm holding on just to keep my options open.

But a companies history is important in determining how the future will pan out.

AMD do do good things. The console tie in. HUGE win. Then they are better at DX12 and Vulkan. But they don't seem to make everything smooth when you put the whole thing together.

Right now I Could buy a 1070 and a Gsync monitor rather than wait for Vega.

Lets assume that Vega then comes out and is AWESOME. At least Nvidia have a better track record with annually bringing out new GPU's. I will already have a Gysnc monitor so will be ready for what ever advancements Nvidia make moving forward.

Why does it seem to take AMD twice as long to get anything out the door compared to Nvidia and Intel?

I still think its like the Fury, 10 will be the big one (X), 11 will be the smaller (pro), and thats it, the rest of the range is already out, and its the re-launched 1yr old Polaris, i can't see there being anymore than that, as they are brassic.

They'd have just wasted money (money that they ain't got) re-launching their 400s again, if they were going to replace them with Vega', in the next couple of weeks or so.

Once the 2x Vegas are out (Furys X and pro), thats it, next ones are NAVI.

This, why im still saying, Vega be lucky to beat out the 1070 :p
Wasn't the AMD MI25, based on vega 10, suppose to be like 12.5 terafloppers( :P ) of performance? Which is 0,5 more than Titan Xlittlep. Now i know that it is not equal to 1 to 1 performance vs the TitanXlittlep but it makes it highly unlikely that it should only match a meager 1070 if the same chip is used uncut.

There is being pessimistic and there is being realistic :D:D:D. The 28nm Fury X when not bottlenecked (usually at 4k) is already as fast as a 1070. With just a clock bump from the new process it would absolutely smoke a gtx1070 and match a gtx1080. The Fury X is a flawed Gpu in that it needs high resolution and dx12/Vulkan to show it's real power. If AMD have solved all the issues along with major improvements then Vega should be a really nice Gpu. For me i have no idea how fast but i would bet it's faster than a gtx1080. Can it match up to the big guns is what i want to see as for me it's a given that it will beat the 1080.

Im just not getting on the hype train, as its only going to lead to disappointment again, as they always fall way short of where predicted, the Titan killer, yep, it killed it alright, it didn't even beat the 980, the 480, that was going to be competing with the 1070, and all for £200, yep, it didn't even beat the 2yr older 970, was nowhere bloody near the 1070, and we all know how the Ryzens turned out.

I agree stay off the hype train as i was on it a few times myself and felt pretty disappointed. I am pretty certain Vega won't be a disappointment speed wise just don't know where it's performance will be. The safe bet is in between the 1080 and ti.

Although the 480 didn't convincingly beat the old 970 it's now crushing it in the form of a 580. With AMD you have to look at release performance and add on 10-20% to get where the card will be later on :D:D:D

As for Ryzen it's a great Cpu and getting better at gaming all the time. Out with gaming it's spanking Intel on price performance. A £500 1800x is matching a £1000 6900k.

The FuryX beats a 980 and the 480 is over a £100 < 1070 and was never going to be competing with it. As for Ryzen, its a great CPU at an great price, wtf is wrong with that?

Aren't the Vega 10 & 11 different chips though?
The Fury X & Fury pro are both one chip with the pro being a cut down version.
I was under the impression Vega 11 was a different chip not the Vega 10 with some cores disabled.

EDIT: Like this say's

The Fury X and Fury were the same core, the latter just cutdown from disabled parts.
Just like the 1080 and 1070 are both GP104.

Vega 10 and 11 are different cores, like GP100 and GP102, and Polaris 10 & 11.
