Won't the APU need a different socket? AFAIK AMD's past APUs could not be used in the same socket as Bulldozer>Piledriver, etc.

Not any more, they're all AM4 compatible. Many current RyZen motherboards already have video connections on them for compatibility with the up coming APUs.

And existing APUs of the Bristol Ridge series. Like the A12-9800 which can be used on the AM4 boards with video output. eg Crosshair 6 Hero

What is Ryzen 3??

R3, sorry. Shall edit my post.

...but you didn't edit your post, did you? And then I woke up, got myself a nice cup of tea, sat down to read up on forums and was like: "OMG! omg omg omg HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN ASLEEP??? THERE'S A RYZEN 3 ALREADY???" and then (looking back at the title of this thread) "...AND WE'RE STILL WAITING FOR VEGA???"

At this point, I would take a FuryX rebrand with 8gb of VRAM and higher clocks. If the leaks are real (which I don't think they are) then after all this wait Vega only matches a 1070 which has been out ages, is very very disappointing

Don't worry, I hear Gibbo is planning a special bundle for Vega and Half Life 3. It'll surely be worth the weight.

+1

I have been waiting since 10th March (Graphic card failed) for news on Vega and not grabbing a 1080ti. If it does not at least compete with the higher end Nvidia's i shall not consider them in the future.

Similar boat. GTX 1070 had to be RMA'ed recently and now waiting for Vega.

i cant see how vega will only match a 1070, the only thing ive seen vega running is doom at 4k ultra and getting 70fps and reviews of the 1070 show a average of 45 fps i know this is only one game and vulkan and all that but still this makes vega with early drivers faster than a 1080 let alone a 1070

I would be bemused if big vega came out and was 1070 performance. That will be small vega, not big...

I would be surprised if it came out at 1070 levels... I loved how the fury x aged but, this time round, i want something that can handle some AAA games at 4k on dx11 rather than having to wait for new API improvements and better drivers... It just wouldn't make business sense if they bring out a flagship card and it is at that level. I just wish the release would hurry up so i can decide on two Ti's or two Darth Vega's..

That being said if the Vega is a big let down and comes in around a 1070 i won't be that sad because i am over the moon with what they did with Ryzen and the CPU market needed the bigger shake up..

<----- that's me trying to put a positive spin on it haha.

Haha :)

Even at 1080 performance I would be disappointed, let alone 1070 which to me is unthinkable for big Vega.

But end of the day even if it comes out to be only 1080 performance and is priced well, at least it will give people some choice and allow them to go the freesync route.

I do agree for how long they have been absent and since its meant to be all new and improved it should be a 1080ti beater easy :) , Needs to be a good improvment on the fury series so those owners have a upgrade path ( and ofc all those 290/390 owners aswell )

I just think we are all being negative because deep down we know it will come in better than the 1080ti and $10 less

come on lets start a hype train :D
