AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

I think these results are a combination of bad drivers from nvidia recently and AMD making better ones. I don't know what has happened to geforce drivers, they used to be spot on, but in the last couple of years they have gone downhill massively. Could also be down to lack of proper async on geforce cards :/

I also add that with an AMD setup you also save money on your monitor as you don't have to pay for a g-sync module so the equivalent screen is £150-£200 cheaper.

Certainly something to consider.

I used to ****ing love my Crossfire setups tbh (except the 290X Reference one, that just downright deafened me!!!! :D).

How are you finding it atm? Well supported generally?

Have a read in the AMD driver thread, crossfire generally sounds like a flickering light show in many games, BF1 included.

Performance was very impressive but I don't play a lot of games. SWBF probably being the most intensive but crossfire was smooth etc, was very impressed.

Sadly, not using that system at the moment as the AIO started leaking and I have it boxed up ready to RMA it when I have time to get to the post office etc. Stuck on my old system, CBA moving the cards over to this PhenomII system :( There have been some issues mind, mostly heat related, the fans actually spin in 2D which is annoying as that's one of the reasons I went with MSI. I think one card is a bit iffy and is spitting out coil wine but can't get to the bottom of that with the system being down. I have to say, though, it is insane how hot these backplates get, 70c easy. They look awesome, though. Especially with the RGB LEDs set, shame I can't use the LED software because it's buggy as ****. Ha, the problems I have had with this build :S

Yeah this is pretty significant now, and is something I'm looking into myself.

I am still on two 1080p60 screens (with no sync).

If big Vega is hovering around Titan XP performance, I'm very interested to get it and upgrade to Freesync monitors at the same time.

Could very plausibly end up with 1080-Titan performance + 2 nice sync monitors for £1000. Nvidia can't touch that kind of value for money.

yep same here crossfire experience has been pretty good over the years and ive come close to buying a pair of 480's but posts from loadsamoney and tony turbo keep putting me off

Forgive me for butting in but you mention that dave's post is only using a certain resolution, and totally ignore that floppers graph only put the fury x above the 1070 @ 4k by 2%, the rest of the resolutions have the 1070 being on top.

Now THAT is a "Cherry Pickers Dream".

Ian, I think you misunderstand what I was getting at. I didnt say because it was only a certain resolution, I said that the only bit of info on that particular graph was the resolution. There is nothing else on there to compare/contrast anything with, and as i said when review sites do these averages over 25 or so games then with the amount of Gameworks sponsored titles compared to AMD titles and also not figuring in the Vulkan version of Doom, then an average is going to look a lot worse than it should be for an AMD card.

Hope that clears it up a bit.
:)

Last time I head SLI was no better and even places like Anandtech are saying it's down to modern console orientated games.

i remember a thread quite a while ago by kaap asking if multi gpu has had its day, sadly im beging to think it has, i read gears of war 4 is supposed to get multi gpu support but by the time that ever happens i will have finished the game

I definitely think consoles are holding PC development back and have been for a few years. Surely, you would think that would not/should not be the case (especially for AMD/GCN).

Well there will definitely be plenty to talk about in 2017, that's for sure.

Well with the PS Pro coming with a dual GPU setup we might finally see developer pushing for explicit multi adapter in DX12.

Might be entirely wishful thinking on my part, but Raja said they were pushing for multi GPU to become as common place as multi core'd CPUs.

Well lets hope so. It would be a good thing if MGPU on all sides worked well, so that those with more dispensible income could game without issues and those with not so dispensible income could get 2 RX480s come January 2017 (Yes, I know it aint gonna happen that fast).

:D

This is a big issue with Crossfire & Sli, If you buy games soon after release and play straight away you miss the smooth sailing that months of patches and driver updates bring. For single cards it's not such an issue but it is still a bit of one and this year AMD have been a lot more on the ball with regular driver updates but that's a lot harder to do for mgpu,
Look at Fallout 4 as an example, AMD finally got the mgpu working just for the game developers to release a large Nvidia sourced visuals patch the very next day breaking AMD's mgpu again.
The smart gamer will buy the fastest card he can to ensure the best performance he can get for all the newly releasing games out there, not a pair of slightly slower cards hoping they'll work reliably because they're faster when they do. That roads paved with disappointment.
