I'm waiting till next year when we'll be able to use 4K HDR TVs at 120 Hz with HDMI 2.1

Either that'll be the best thing to buy, or the monitor manufacturers will have to compete on price. The current monitor prices compared to TVs are laughable, and the only real reason they can get away with it is because HDMI2.0 is stuck at 60Hz

I can't ever see monitors competing with TVs again, at least not any time soon....

Only reasons to go with a monitor these days are if you want:

- a small display
- free/g sync
- low input lag, as in <10ms

I be willing to bet that the TV industry will have those 2 last things done long before we get OLED monitors for <£1000

Or you work in a professional environment, and want a same day/next day swap out warranty.

But getting back to Vega, just 7 days to go for the official launch! :D

What would be awesome is if GloFo really do manage to get 7nm to production in 2H 2018 and then AMD are able to compete without a process node disadvantage after long long time...

Or if you need a DisplayPort input because your GPU (like my 290) only has HDMI 1.4 so can do 4K at 30Hz through that, but can do 4K@60Hz through DP. Obviously, Vega will come with shiny new HDMI tech and this won't be a problem, which is yet another reason I'm finding it so hard to wait for Vega to launch! :D

Does it cost more? Looks like less silicon to me.
One advantage of HBM2 is that AMD can source it from more then one manufacturer and aren't reliant on Samsung on supplies of HBM like they were on the old Fury line. HBM2 is supposedly cheaper to produce then HBM1 but with Nvidia buying it up for their Tesla cards it makes you wonder just how much supply their really is.

I think most of us have watched AdoredTV's last video and it's difficult to disagree with anything ol' Braveheart said and it's of no surprise that the performance of Vega will fall somewhere between a 1080 and 1080Ti at best (nearer to a 1080 and slower in DX11) as that's what AMD have been doing now for years. So unless AMD have been purposely been holding back on Vega's true performance (very doubtful as why would they?) when the reviews finally hit I won't be disappointed as I know what to expect.

7nm, it's all marketing it won't be a true 7nm process. The 14nm/16nm Nvidia and AMD are using are just a 20nm process with Finfett transistors which somehow they can claim is 14/16nm.

The 7nm process GloFo is prepping was design by IBM, so it'll be decent at least.

Somewhat extraordinarily, due to incredibly tight stacking (30nm transistor pitch), IBM claims a surface area reduction of "close to 50 percent" over today's 10nm processes. All told, IBM and its partners are targeting "at least a 50 percent power/performance improvement for the next generation of systems"—that is, moving from 10nm down to 7nm. The difference over 14nm, which is the current state of the art for commercially shipping products, will be even more pronounced.

OLED still has reports of image burn in, and 55" would be horrific for desk use. :O

The 2016+ don't really suffer from burn in due to various improvements, pretty much a non issue unless now you play a game with a bright HUD for hours on end (of which if there is any burn in, it can be mostly removed by using the built in software). The only real problem with these OLED TVs atm is the panel uniformity, it is very much a lottery although, for most people, it isn't something they would notice... Personally I would put up with OLED's drawbacks over all of the current LCD monitors drawbacks, bleed, glow, awful contrast ratio, trailing/poor motion (for the VA panels) etc.

And yeah I wouldn't use any display bigger than 34" max for computer/work/browsing etc. usage but for any gaming etc., have the big boy at the other side of the desk for the superior image quality where it matters

True that, this is where this helps:

Monitor forum is here, use it;

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forums/monitors.85/

Everyone's getting a bit sick of you banging on about TV's, maybe you can stick to the TV forum in future?

Really? Only seems to your jimmies that are getting rustled :D

Maybe take your own advice:

Possibly the best all-round screen on the market today. Awesomesauce

;)

If people don't want to discuss anything but vega then maybe everyone should stop having this thread go off topic with everything else that has nothing to do with vega.... 290 pages and there is probably only about 20 pages of worth while vega discussion.

Fairy muff, I'll STFU :D

I personally can't wait for TV's to get VRR tech and the gfx cards to support it, then they'll be a REAL option

Please stop hating on the LG though, they're awesome tbh (and I don't feel any obvious in put lag, but I'm not into twitch shooters)

AMD CEO : Gaming RX Vega Launching “Very Soon” After Frontier Edition – Out By July At The Latest

You're a day late, and post Wccft instead of the direct source lol.

Here's all the sources and quotes related to Vega from the JP Morgan presentation from the previous page.

Only 8 days until Computex and we find out what's going down.

Streamclip of the Event ( very soon there after *Frontier Edition )

We think we are very well positioned in the market with our products with our Zen-based family of processors on both the PC side and then very soon to launch in the datacenter side, and we’re also very excited about our Vega graphics set of processors that will launch over the next couple of months as well.

Yes, so we’re very excited about Vega. Vega is a brand new architecture and actually has really the world’s most advanced memory architecture for CPUs. What we did announce at our Analyst Day is that the first shipping Vega will be the frontier editions, which will ship with 16 gigabytes of memory and it will ship towards the latter half of June. You will see the enthusiast gaming platform, the machine learning platform, the professional graphics platform very soon thereafter.

So our EPIC CPUs we’ll be launching later this month – I’m sorry, in June and our Vega GPUs also in a similar timeframe.

Remember Vega is Frontier Edition, Radeon RX ( multiple versions ), Radeon Pro ( Multiple Versions ), Instinct, and APUs.
