Yup a very poor freesync range, if you are wanting it for gaming (i.e. online, FPS), it isn't a good screen to pick imo, the input lag is too high for a "gaming" monitor:

Looking at LG's 34um95 model it is just as bad as the 38" while in comparison Acers XR341ck is one of the best performing UW's on the list so maybe their 38" does as well in the lag stakes, I thought it was due to the 38" panels being new and there having not got the best out of the 38" panels yet, The Freesync range is just as bad on the 38" Acer except for a slight improvement on the mimimums. It'll be interesting to see what the lag times for the 38" Acer are like.

Look at some sites/youtube videos for user settings to somewhat fix that problem but yes, the picture quality/colour still isn't quite as good as the "non game mode" but it is still far superior than monitors IQ.

That along with lack of sync tech. (among a few other things) is why I might hold of until the 2017 OLED TVs drop in price.
It's not that. Resolution of primary colours seems to be a lot lower than the rest and they tend to bleed on to neighbouring pixels.
It's ok for games but terrible for normal desktop use.

That Threadripper CPU is huge. what a beast :O

Its actually a cutdown version of the 64 thread EPYC CPU.

That looks crazy. Widescreen cpu. Lol.

Can't wait for 7nm Zen2 Processors. They will be a perfect upgrade for my Haswell me thinks. 7nm Ryzen and Navi will likely be my next long term upgrades.

My next monitor is going to be an OLED HDR panel I think in a few years. I've bought enough of the old-guard LCD stuff now :)
Same here. Should go nicely with the above upgrades :D

You do know that is just a render :p
Errr ?!? I do now...

ive owned the XR341ck and the 38uc99 and did not notice any difference in lag and cs go is my daily gaming fix

Not everyone suffers from lag, I don't think it bothers me but I haven't had a monitor past 5ms so I don't know for sure,
If lag isn't an issue iit'll be ideal for a game like CS:GO where you can easily keep the fps above 52 and in the Freesync range,
Do you have it capped to 75?

Hopefully GloFo doesn't have issues with 7nm and getting it ready for proper production. It's IBM's design, so I I have high hopes.

Damn bro, you quoted me before I fixed my typos :o:p

Yeah I hope for once things go right for AMD, if they do they will likely get the performance crown from Nvidia until Nvidia get to 7nm.

My relatively inexpensive AOC has pretty low Input lag. And its Free-Sync.

Its a nice screen actually, i'm happy with it.

IIRC, input lag and such isn't necessarily just down to the panels but more so the scalers used as well as the rest of the components, the same goes for freesync. It is the same for the 29" panels, a lot of LG's older monitors had terrible input lag but the newer models are very good.

I wouldn't be surprised if the acer had lower input lag etc.

Have you tried custom user settings?

Here is a video by digital foundry for their settings:

And also check on the likes of avforums as well as avsforums for other peoples settings.

And yeah I wouldn't use any 40"+ TV for normal desktop usage.

Haha. Seems you will be waiting for 2018 models like me after all ;)

I think 2018 models should be good and mature enough OLED. Hopefully with HDMI 2.1 and VRR. Worst case it will be in 2019. Which ever year it is I will wait one year after it is out and pick it up at half price or less when the newer model hits ;)

Only way I get it any earlier is if my lovely LG Plasma dies. Such a great TV :D

Lies! ;):p

interposer is made of silicon so its much more silicon as its the interposer plus gpu die plus memory IC's stacked, assembling the interposer is also a non-trivial additional step which hasnt reached commoditiy pricing yet

You need to think in 3 dimensions with hbm2 to get the total amount of silicon!

The interposer is just etched tracks though(?) and with only two stacks in the case of Vega that may use very little silicon. I also think that the assembly has been somewhat trivialised now compared to the challenge with HBM1. It would be interesting to see the material shopping list for both the reference 1080Ti and a competing gaming Vega card.

haha yeah possibly! :(

It's rather annoying as part me really doesn't want to wait any longer (especially when I could get the 2016 one for £1400 now) + I want 3D which future TVs probably won't have (apparently it is jaw dropping and most people who hate 3d in the cinema etc. has said the experience on OLED is far superior) but the lack of freesync and as above, having to faff about with settings to get a somewhat accurate image in game mode would be annoying....

Maybe consider just buying it as a TV only and not as monitor. Will keep you happy for 3 years until what you want comes out? If I was not super happy with my LG Plasma TV I would consider picking it up myself now to use as TV.

I also make use of my plasma only being 1080p as I can easily play certain games on it if my gpu is struggling at 4K on my monitor. Plus it is nice to play games like Street Fighter V on it and soon Tekken 7. My Nano will be able to deal with both those games maxed out easily to maintain a rock solid 60fps :D

If you're very bothered about 3D movie watching, wait till VR headsets are about 10,000x5,000 (5000x5000 per eye) or above. That'll be around 4K TV quality, but REAL 3D. In that you'll actually be seeing 2 images at slightly different angles, as in real life.
