AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

overall sales and market share have little to do with raw performance alone.

if AMD can bring good products to the table at good value then there is no reason why 50% is not achievable.

It can only be done if AMD beats Nvidia continuously from the top end with not only Raw performance but also with overclocking advantage and efficiency, which will never happen until big companies like Samsung or Microsoft fund them billions for it.

They don't need the overclocking or efficiency. They need to be close on efficiency and priced competively. The majority most likely don't overclock. It would not hurt but I see that as secondary as opposed to Performance/price/efficiency/quiet and cool.

Out of the box performance is what most people look at when buying.

Link!! :D

I really hate graphs that start at not-zero :p (spoiler tagged it so as not to be causing myself to see a graph i hate more often!)

Edit: Thanks TNA for encouraging me to click the link :'(

If that is what you hated about that post, click the link, you will love that :p

Yeah I agree. Hate that marketing crap. But anyone with half a brain can see through those I would imagine. I do not even put much stock in 3DMark in general. It is a nice tool to give an indication of performance and mess about in, but it is fps/frametimes you get from games that matter ultimately.

Possible AMD Radeon RX 490 Performance Numbers Show Up in DX12 AOTS Benchmark – On Par With High-End GeForce GTX 1080

I read in other forum that someone found RX 490 spec on android app GPU-L so I downloaded it to checked it out:

So if spec turned out to be true then RX 490 is Vega 10 with 8GB HBM2 and 9.8 TFLOPs that would make it GTX 1080 competitor, not GTX 1080 Ti competitor.

It's only depressing if you buy into such absolute ridiculous nonsense.

Or if you realise that if it's true, then Nvidia can do an Intel and not bother providing significant improvements in price-to-performance each year due to no significant competition. Heck, we've already started to see it with the 1000 series.

nVidia are just too entrenched imo, in both mindshare and the masses of $$$ to back it up. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I hope so too. Competition is good for all, no matter what cards you buy. Nvidia cards will be cheaper and AMD cards would be a fair option.

MY main concern with Vega is that they will price it based on Nvidias high end pricing. maybe only marginally lower. and fire it in at £800/£900. That will be "game over" for me I'm afraid. Im not paying that to game at high end, nor am I paying £600 to game at mid end.

I hope they price it to come in well below. try and really pull their boots up.

True that. The past couple of years I've been rather upset with AMD for this reason. They seem to go along with Nvidia's pricing, but that may potentially be because they arne't making enough profit. Regardless it's the main reason why I hated the 300 series launch, all they did was slot in around Nvidia's offerings instead of choosing their own (lower) pricing.

The cynic in me sees AMD doing the same with Vega, not shaking the boat and instead positioning around where Nvidia have priced theirs.

Hope this is a good card so I can get a 1080ti at a reasonable cost. lol

As above, only if AMD have balls with the pricing. I'm thinking similarly, except if AMD actually release a card that's a bit better than Titan XP at a reasonable price then I might buy that instead. But it's highly unlikely, since they don't even have anything to compete against the 1070/1080 at the moment. If they did release such a card, there'd need to be something to plug the gap between and AMD can only work on so many new GPUs. Fury(X) just doesn't have the stock or the reliability (for example compared to Polaris) to compete with the 1070 even.

Have you seen what the 1080ti is, its just a cut down tx if true.

They got a cpu-l app aswell, which tells you the price.

Reasonable goals, but not terribly inspiring from a corporate perspective. You'd really think they'd want to aim and expect higher. It's as if they are admitting that the best they could ever do is be 'as good' as Nvidia.

Investors will want to hear more positive bytes than that.

Investors don't like been lied to their faces. They want to know how the business is doing and where it is heading. If they say we will take the dedicated GPU market from nvidia and have around 70% market share in upcomming years i think even investors would laugh.

What has been said is a good goal and within possibility. AMD have been behind nvidia in the dedicated GPU market for a good while now so getting back neck and neck would be good.

You been looking at gaming chairs from argos? xD

Anyway i very much doubt AMD will be releasing Vega 10 before 11.
As 10 is supposedly replacing polaris.
