AMD vs Intel for a 4090 - which one will be best?

What an easy question to answer. The issue is people are inpatient. The 4090 is a defective AD102 die lol. Will the 4090Ti use the fully working die they are currently stock piling!?
Back to CPU's, it's a waiting game for the best and what I'd say is the only CPU for the ultimate no question, budget is not an issue ect....
13900KS (6GHz boost) or Zen 4 (3D) (CES 2023). Both 2023 parts.

Not waiting a year to upgrade rig. There will always be something better next year. When the 4090TI drops, a year later the 5090 will release etc.

I am curious what you are basing this on?

I have yet to see any non-intel benchmarks for the 13900k that can be relied upon unless i have just missed them?
It's based on benchmarks of 12900KS vs 7950X. From there we can extrapolate to say that 13900K will do better than 12900KS, and therefore better than 7950X (there was also a leaked review a few weeks ago from China). It's a bit more complicated than that because it's very game dependant but whenever I'm looking at titles where you absolutely need every morsel of CPU performance, or hamstrung legacy titles, you'll find Intel is still the king. I think AMD will do a near clean sweep with Zen 4 3D and likely keep that title for a long time, but for now that's not the case.

Like I said need to wait til Q1 2023 to have all the CPUs on the table. Then choose one that suits a persons use case.....

Look what 5800x3d mades zen 4 look like for gaming though. It's very much buy for your use case.

My point is that if you want to wait 6 months then why not wait 6 after that for something better or 6 after that even.

Something better is always just around the corner.

Also Zen5 and Meteor Lake are expected to be major architectural changes

I agree. Zen 4 to me is a flog. Am5 for gaming is a non starter til 3d. For am4 board owners the 5800x3d for gaming is a no brainer and even if you jump up and down on it for a laugh after 2 years you'll still be financially better off lol.

Right ok, so its a guess then, maybe an educated guess and i am not saying you are wrong here but there isn't really anything concrete to confirm the performance.

I had read, and i can't remember where i read it so that that for what it is, but 13th gen wasn't going to have a significant IPC improvement over 12th gen but they were going to have more e cores. Now if what i read was remotely true, then apart from increased clock speeds, the difference between 7000 series and 13th gen may not be what we might expect of a new generation. If you also consider that there are likely to be performance gains to be squeezed out of 7000 series as BIOS matures but the same might not be true of 13th gen if is essentially just 12th gen with extra E cores and increased clock speeds.

On balance of probability, you are likely right and intel will edge into the lead until the 3d v-cache chips arrive, but given the cost of 7000 series already, i dread to think what AMD is going to charge for the new chips.
