AMD vs Intel for a 4090 - which one will be best?

Right ok, so its a guess then, maybe an educated guess and i am not saying you are wrong here but there isn't really anything concrete to confirm the performance.

I had read, and i can't remember where i read it so that that for what it is, but 13th gen wasn't going to have a significant IPC improvement over 12th gen but they were going to have more e cores. Now if what i read was remotely true, then apart from increased clock speeds, the difference between 7000 series and 13th gen may not be what we might expect of a new generation. If you also consider that there are likely to be performance gains to be squeezed out of 7000 series as BIOS matures but the same might not be true of 13th gen if is essentially just 12th gen with extra E cores and increased clock speeds.

On balance of probability, you are likely right and intel will edge into the lead until the 3d v-cache chips arrive, but given the cost of 7000 series already, i dread to think what AMD is going to charge for the new chips.
13900k drops 20th October, so just a matter of days for reviews to drop.

I have seen a few supposed benchmark videos on youtube that have the 13900k with quite a commanding lead over the 7950x. However, there a few things about most of these videos that don't make a lot of sense ( i saw one that proclaimed the AMD system was running with 3600 RAM for a 7950x lol), not least the fact that even if they have a 13900k they are clearly breaking any embargos that are in place for the moment.

Hopefully we will see some more trustworthy reviews/benchmarks in the coming days

Those YouTube videos just put-up fake numbers to generate ad revenue.

If you are on an older CPU like a 9900k and have just bought a 4090, then you’ve waited long enough. Buy a 12/13 gen or an AMD equivalent now and enjoy your games.

Agree with this, the whole 'wait for' stuff does my head in. Yes it makes sense a lot of the time but it's not helpful if you are impatient or have another reason for needing to do something sooner.

Fake videos. Scamming is huge now and growing as morality in the West plummets. I now go into things assuming somethings fake/a scam unless proven otherwise.

Not to mention the fact that you are always 3-6 months away from something better. If someone is that patient, they simply wouldn’t buy any one of them.

Ah yes the perpetual wait loop, don't buy the 4090 there will be a 5090 if you wait a gen.

It depends whether you're comfortable paying for a 4090 been a piece of silicone with defects very much at a price you would expect to pay for a fully working chip!?
