AMD Zen 2 (Refresh) 3900XT/3800XT/3600XT

The ryzen 4000's are expected to be announced end of september so thats 3 months after this would launch. Wouldn't it just be better to wait and weight the options for price performance since the 3000 series and these would probably get a price cut to be competitive with the new products.

I do not see why this is not the case. But some said due to the virus going around there are logistic issues, so server CPUs, and 4950X will see the light of day this year. With the rest of the Zen 3 start of 2021.

We shall see. These CPUs might give more life to B350/X370 boards also, given that they won't support Zen 3.

Yes, but no bad thing to offer an improved set of parts for people buying now with B550. There is rumour that the Zen 3 parts may arrive with top end in November, and then more mainstream a few months later, so no bad thing to introduce a mid-tier refresh mainstream part to stimulate sales, and cover people buying now with a better performance part, especially if it uses up soon to be 'outdated' design silicon :)

Seems a bit odd having a gpu naming convention attached to CPU's, "xt". Still i suppose it differentiates them from the previous iterations.

Was considering a 3900x, might snag the xt if its a decent little bump up, and assuming its x370 compatible.:)

AMD love using "X" in their naming schemes. You could pair a 3900XT with a XFX RX 5700XT and an X570 motherboard :D

I think X or XT to distinguish the highest in range is a good idea.

Intel have X and K

Nvidia have TI and Super.

No need for more than one denomination, i think AMD should tie their CPU's and GPU's together, highest in range should always be XT be it CPU's or GPU's.

So the 3600 is right, as is the 5700, but the 3600X should have always been the 3600XT, like the 5700XT.

It neatly ties in and you always know what it is. Refreshes like this should use the 00 and make them 50, so 3650XT, a 5700XT refresh would be 5750XT.

Crap..... 12 core 3950XT wouldn't work would it? :o

Ok. ignore the ##50... if you have more than 9 CPU's in your range you have to use the 00, which is why we have 3900 / 3950 / 3970 / 3990

So how about v2? 3600XT refreshed to 3600XTv2.

Cool, so we should just about get the clock speeds that the original 3900x touted, instead of the 100+hz below (caveat by saying my 3900x always shows most cores on ccx1 hitting 4.6ghz at some point... just not when I'm actually using them).

Quite bizarre timing to release but maybe Zen 3 won't be until end of 2020 / early 2021?
I wouldn't bet against early 2021. With any 2020 release being server parts or whatever.

There was a rumour that only the top top consumer CPU would release in 2020, ie the 4900.

I think its a bit of a stupid move from AMD right now, just before the RyZen 4000 release, lets say people upgrade to these now and they do get a 10% performance uplift, who's going to bother upgrading to RyZen 4000 for a further 5-7% IPC gain ?
