They need to have the BIOS compatible with Zen 2 installed for the chips to work as far as I know.

to run any of the ryzen 3000's on b450/x470 you'll need a bios update before hand, pretty easy thease days to do, just take your time and all will be good, there may be bugs to begin with but sick with it as new bios release the performace should improve

Only if (a) the motherboard supports "flashback", which is basically some MSI boards and the Crosshair VII, or (b) you find/borrow/buy a Ryzen 1000/2000 CPU to do the flash with.

If it has BIOS Flashback you can flash it without a CPU

I’ll be using the MSI Flashback button the motherboard that only requires you to have power attached, no CPU or RAM required.

Apparently all you need is a FAT32 formatted USB drive with the BIOS copied to the root of it, plug it in and press the button.

Seems simple enough but will be certainly taking my time with it.

B450 Carbon has been in my sights all week, but still no release bios available. I'd like to see it live before I order. I'm not buying something that only has a beta bios available.

Only downside to that board is there is no bios to support RyZen 3000 CPU's yet, im waiting for one for my MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC too, there is a beta though, but loads of people are complaining about it bricking boards, maybe they are doing something wrong: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=320889.0 some even say its not recognized by the board due to the size and layout change, the beta bios doesnt get recognized by mine either, however, there is a 3rd party piece of software I can use to force flash it, or the bios flashback button would probably do it too.
