AMD Zen 3 (5000 Series), rumored 17% IPC gain.

Im guessing here but if AMD are bumping up 3000 series with XT line price wise to original 3000 prices, I believe the 4000 series with its ipc improvements will have a nice fat AMD tax on them for a good 6 months. So say a 4900x (12 core 24 thread) will be £570. I'd love to be wrong but AMD is on fire and will milk their dominance.

Not too bothered if they bump the prices up I’ll just wait until they drop. I’m not even sure if I’ll bother at all it all depends how much of a Micky they take with the new gen gpu’s, if they are stupid money I’ll sit it out until normality resumes and buy a ps5 in the meantime.

I agree, many will sit and wait. If the next gen consoles are well priced. Paying £400 for a good cpu, £140 for 32 gig RAM, £800 on a 3080 say. I'll for one will just get a console and just buy 2nd hand computer components from then on (waiting 12/14 months for pc parts to fall dramatically)

This rumour chat is a little unfair when AMD could have literally changed their RRPs 48 hours before their release presentation.

I acknowledge the 5GHz thing but still, Jim Adored is a clever chap and I really rate his analytical skills. Who's better than him? Perhaps Moore's law is dead?

Yep. I am not buying on release. Will wait minimum 6 months, but likely more like 18 months to then pick it up less than half price :D

My 3600 is more than fast enough anyways.

Yeah but then the 5600 will be out at 7GHz with 12c/36t and you'll then want that... DILEMMA!!! :p
I will likely skip that. Was thinking of waiting on 5000 series and new socket, but honestly I was on a 4770K at 4.7GHz for over 6 years, so I am thinking 4900X will last a long time also.

I am thinking in 18 months time I will pick up a 4900X for £250-£300 on members market as people upgrading to 5900X 7GHz, lol. :D

CPU’s do not give me the same excitement/temptation like GPU’s do. I am rarely CPU bound.

I understand, you were 'that kid' who was all about the graphics, and who gives a damn about the gameplay. :p

In all seriousness though there is nothing to be excited about with GPU's these days, not the way the market is going with pricing them anyhow. In the professional workspace maybe, as budget restrictions mainly don't apply but we are in a sad situation with people who want to make a home gaming PC and the main advice it to look second hand, for a 1080 Ti for example.

Don't get me wrong when I first got my Orchid Righteous 3D (Voodoo) it was expensive, but it was literally cutting edge new technology, not just a bit faster than the last thing. I know that we are supposed to be on the ray tracing revolution but the initial impact has been pretty poor compared to the Voodoo cards, or even the GeForce 256 for that matter. :)

Yes sir I was :p:D

Well I am forever GPU bound, so that helps no? Sure it is not as exciting as it used to be, but I am looking forward to giving things DLSS 2.0 and RT a whirl. Yes, yes, there are not many exciting RT stuff yet I agree, but it will slowly come :D

I completely agree with you on pricing. It is sad where we as consumers and Nvidia have let things get to, but I am sure there will be an improvement in price for performance (a very important metric for me) with the likes of a RTX 3070 and whatever equivalent big navi is.
