Probably a healthy profit margin for Intel, but the world has gone mad when it’s comes to silicon, so maybe not the worst launch prices.
To me that means that AMD wil not be pressed to lower prices and therefore we will pay a lot for upgrades regardless of the platform.

No i think they will, 5600X £200, 5800X £300 provided pricing and performance rumours are true.

Well their flag ship will have to hands down beat the 5950x across the board to be wanting 700+ . The 5950x can be had for 660 inc vat in places

Time will tell!

I can’t see it in the current climate. Unless AMD have really ramped production.
Well no ones going to buy 6 cores for £250 when you can get 10 for £300 and maybe even for £200 if Intel release a 12400F.

Also with AMDs profits up over 100% they have plenty of room to maneuver.

I don’t think anyone could by a 5600X £200, they would very likely be constantly out of stock.
If there was that much demand for it then it would be out of stock at £250 so I don't think a £50 price cut would increase sales that much especially if it's behind a similarly priced 12400F on performance.

An upgrade to Intel will cost more. For anyone that is already on 400 series board, considerably. You do know the industry is barely keeping up with demand and that has seen prices creeping up?

I can see some big price reductions on 10th and 11th gen Intel CPU’s and motherboards. Intel having poor sales for last few years and relatively uninterrupted supply would probably see some hesitation in the supply chain to carry the 12th gen chips.

If anything this last year has shown is people are often quite happy to pay a bit more if the performance is there, not to mention you stand to get 10 cores with a newer platform and better compatibility with Windows 11 which all adds futureproofing.

Yeah, prices have been creeping up and will probably continue too for the foreseeable.

yes same old game with intel hold stock back to keep prices high and then when new gen/ products are due for release drop pricing fast on old stock.

Its getting there, 5600X is now £240, 5800X is £350.

Mores Law is dead thinks Intel are not going to increase pricing, so a 12600K would cost $260, i think he's delusional, Intel's 10nm is still not yielding well and it looks like the die is larger.
Motherboards are going to cost even more than the already expensive Z590.
The performance difference between Rocketlake and Alderlake is mostly due to DDR5 which i think will cost about 50% more than DDR4.

I think Intel will sell more Alderlake than they sold Cometlake and Rocketlake but they will sell them at the high end.

People who buy i5 or Ryzen 5 are not looking for the best performance, they are looking for the best price to performance ratio and they are looking at the platform as a whole, a DDR5 Alderlake i5 will cost a LOT more than a Ryzen 5, probably more even than a Ryzen 7.

As for those willing to pay pretty much whatever it takes to get the fastest CPU, that is where AMD will be putting Zen 3D 5900XT and 5950XT, it will depend which of them is faster, the 12900K or the 5950XT.

If the 12400F maintains current pricing and DDR4 works on the cheaper boards and it beats a 5600X then it's hard to see where AMD will go other than having to massively cut prices. If it also beats a 5800X which is similar to a 5600X in gaming and wins in multicore with the 6/12+4 then it will be a long wait till Zen 4.

Also you don't need expensive Z boards unless you want to overclock the CPU.
