For gaming you would need to be running a decent GPU say a 3060ti / 3070 at 1080p to see a noticeable difference, for video editing then you're probably best checking out some benchmarks of a 3700X vs 5800X for the software you use to give you an idea of the improvement.
Cheers. Just thinking about it, I soon want to go from 1440P to ultrawide so gaming wouldn't see an uplift, but I'll check benches for the editing software.

Just treated myself to a 5800x on a b550 board and 4 sticks of sammy b-die memory for a total of 32gigs. Reason for not waiting for the x3d version is simple but multiple. 1) I didn't like the idea of it being locked no matter how good the reasoning may be. 2) I think heat might be even more difficult to manage. 3) The need for it is simply not there with a 6700xt as the GPU. 4) I got the 5800x new for close to the price of a 5600x and I don't think the same will be possible anytime soon with the 5800x3d.

Coming from a 3600 on a b450 board with 16gigs(2x8 sticks) of 3200mhz cl16 memory, the overall improvements is: slight increase to system responsiveness and more stable FPS by brining up the minimums by a good bit. Max and Average fps hasn't moved much in the titles I play atm but I expected that. Has it been worth it? for an average joe I would say no, not unless you have a fair bit more GPU grunt that I. From a enthusiast's point of view with a compulsive need for perfection but on a budget? :P Certainly!! and I really enjoy tinkering with PBO controls and the curve optimizer.

Always the way, I'm so glad I get to use other people money to get the need to tinker out of my system. Means when I am forced back to using my old i7 4770, or the Ryzen 2200G system I din't feel bad about it, heck even the Mrs has a better system than me these days. :p

That is the best way to spend money :P and a double win for you as you get to take care of that itch... that annoying itch... I still have it.. cause of that 75hz panel my cow eyes are looking at right now. It's a never ending nightmare that I happily participate in :P

Well this morning I am working with a super exciting DFI 3.5" SBC with a socket on it! It is a actually a pretty nice little board, C246 based chipset and supports 9th Gen, I have a 9900T in it, shame it only has one DIMM slot, so no dual channel RAM, but Ii have 3x monitors hooked up from it so there is always that to make up for it. Time to find out if the engineers designed the chassis for it correctly later, that is always fun. :D

Well the new R5 5500 at ~£140 looks to be the new sweet spot CPU, with 6c/12t and a lower end B550 board, with 16GB RAM you can get change from £250. Not bad for what was just a CPU price on its own.

True, especially if you just want a gaming CPU, more so at higher-res: https://hothardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-5700x-and-ryzen-5-4500-5500-5600-benchmarks?page=4

Mind you, it took AMD long enough this time around. That kick in the groin called Alderlake finally seemed to do the trick. :)

They probably realised it's a problem, 4 sticks of bdie for me overclocks far better on 3950x than 5950x
What do you get on each? I need to do a tiny bit of tweaking but I can get my Micron E-die working at its XMP of 3600MHz CL16 with 4 sticks on my 3900X and a Gigabyte X570 Master.

Didn't want to make a new thread but AMD is lowering the max RAM speed with the new chips. Now populating 4 RAM slots won't even get you 3000.

2x1R DDR4-3200
2x2R DDR4-3200
4x1R DDR4-2933
4x2R DDR4-2667

not really an issue is it. These are the guaranteed speeds. I'm currently running a 1700 with 4 8gb sticks. The original speeds for that chip were 2133 and I'm at 3000.

Yeah, it seems unlikely that newer CPUs are going to have significantly weaker IMCs. It's probably so they can just point to this when someone complains and tell them go away.
