Without watching the video is it that AMD are not "officially supporting 400 series boards" but will now release the micro code to board parters so they can "unofficially support Zen 3 on older boards" ?

If so that's a pragmatic compromise.

Which is what should have happened in the first place.

Well that scuppered my plans to get a 3900x eventually to chuck in my B450 board as the last upgrade realistically viable for me. Now Ill have to wait and see what 4000 series brings :)

As @Alexrose1uk said you would be surprised.

People just buy a AMD board and an AMD CPU thinking they would just fit together, they are not expecting to have to #### about with it to get it to work and if that's what they end up having to do its because AMD suck.

Fair enough then!

You'd be surprised. A lot of people assume it'll just work; they don't know any better as so much stuff is more or less spoonfed these days.
Back when I worked in retail in years gone by most of the returns were not products which didn't work; they were returns because the customer hadn't done the research, asked questions etc, they'd just bought XYZ and expected it to work.

Fair enough! Damn consumers and their ways these days...

To all the people that said hahaha:

me just now said:

It was worth it just for that alone. So I now have the option of going from 75fps in RDR2 to... 75fps, because its GPU limited :). But other things might get as much as 17% faster! I'm pumped. Or it's nice to have the option of getting pumped.

Was hoping they would go back to the x370, seems 450 is as far back as they want to go :(

Yeah given that the BIOS update effectively removes support for a number of older CPUs perhaps they are just thinking that removing support for 1st gen Ryzens from B450s inst such a big deal as removing it from X370 platforms as more people on that platform might need 1st gen support? It's not great logic I know but off the top of my head it's a thought.
