None of the current CPUs require more than a single 8-pin. Certainly not on air - if you wanted to overclock a 3950X on LN2 you might want to hook it up. Extra ones have just become the latest fashionable thing for motherboard manufacturers to add, even on low end boards where the VRM would literally explode if you tried to run enough power through them to require the extra connector. That said, there's no harm in connecting it either if you want to. It doesn't really matter either way.

Cheers :)

Yeah given that the BIOS update effectively removes support for a number of older CPUs perhaps they are just thinking that removing support for 1st gen Ryzens from B450s inst such a big deal as removing it from X370 platforms as more people on that platform might need 1st gen support? It's not great logic I know but off the top of my head it's a thought.

Second hand market will be a bloodbath after 400 series owners upgrade their BIOS to Zen 3.
There won't be many compatible motherboards for Zen1/Zen+ on this range. Already we see issues with X370 boards flashed to Zen 2, having to be returned with sellers flagged because they don't work with Zen 1, regardless if seller explicitly said they won't work on 1000 series.

With the current news your B450 Pro Carbon AC may receive a beta BIOS enabling 4000 series support. My primary concern with such a board though would be whether its VRM's are really up to the task of powering the high end AM4 stuff. X570 boards generally have bettery VRM setups for a reason.

There could be a limitation,ie,maybe the motherboards could be locked to 65W TDP models?? It could be the case PBO is blocked on 400 series motherboards to stop potential problems.

But,if you look at the power consumption,a Ryzen 7 2700X wasn't much lower power consumption than a Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzne 9 3950X.

Lol Steve does suck the life out of any hardware he's covering. He always seems bored and unenthused, I usually watch the first 5 mins of his reviews then switch to a more upbeat and shorter review from someone else like HU.

He's not wrong, he always seems to find some negative spin to put on something, he doesn't seem happy in his reviews unless he gets to whinge about something.

Ah, so you don't like because he shares similar traits to yourselves :p

You would like him to show everything in a positive light

He makes a mountain out a mole hill on some occasions. Doesn't help that he usually has that smug looking smirk on his face a lot which usually suggests he enjoys ascending the soapbox.

I don’t understand why anyone gives GN Steve Burke any air time. He just moans about literally everything. In his latest video about the zen 3 support not only he attacks AMD for withdrawing support and shambolic marketing ploy. He also in the same video attacks the consumer who are affected by this issue.

I watch hardware unboxed for better viewing pleasure. Aussie accent is also far more tolerable than a squeaky angry American accent.

good to see AMD usb is committing to older board support for Zen 3

To be honest i find SB very difficult to understand most of the time. He speaks far too fast and i get very fed up with having to constantly stop a vid and replay a section because i can't understand a word he's said.
And your right, Hardware Unboxed is just an all round better viewing and listening experience.

You are definitely right. He mixes up his words also. Which kind of make you do a double take at time. His videos are Uber long as well, makes it difficult to watch till the end or any sustained time.

it does look like guys at hardware unboxed pressed AMD and some board manufacturers quite hard on the issue over the last few days.

it is a good result for all considered. Probably the trolls, ney sayers or gloaters on this thread are the only ones not particularly happy about this.

I find his voice better than Moore’s Law is Dead’s accent.
