It is a very cut down one already, if they made it too basic it may lose usefulness even with desktop/2D.
I don’t think many manufacturers will be considering desktop parts for handheld devices. There is completely separate range of parts for low power.
I remember Lisa telling some dude from Microslop "i hope its worth it, the die space is expensive" in reference to the NPU live on stage.
I would opt for a iGPU over an NPU, by the time an NPU is useful (for me, not MS) the current versions will not be good enough. AMD will probably also make it so the NPU cannot be disabled in the firmware. Hopefully, AMD will do a version with no NPU.

Interesting that it comes with PCIe 6.0. I doubt we'll see that on consumer platforms as Zen 6 Epyc is on a new socket but there are redundant pins on AM5 that might enable itZen 6 EPYC Venice launching this month, no word yet on Zen 6 Ryzen.

Yeah, think what they will do is have a new motherboard with a new chipset and PCIe 6 to encourage you to buy a new motherboard with one.
Existing motherboard will simply remain with PCIe 5.
PCIe gen 6 probably does not need more pins, the pins just run at 2X the frequency. It will be like AM4 PCIe 3 gen to gen 4, some boards could do gen 4 but AMD would not allow it so it was disabled. It's down to the boards traces and re-timers.
It was down to the motherboard manufacturer to qualify for gen 4. It seems most took the CBA route, which is understandable when new chipsets are on the horizon.
That’s not true, some motherboard manufacturers did enable PCIE gen 4 but then AMD blocked it with with future Agesa updates.

Yep, I didn't have any Gen4.0 devices to test with at the time, but there was a beta BIOS or two for my x370 Taichi with support (and people over on HOC forums saying they were running it without issues)That’s not true, some motherboard manufacturers did enable PCIE gen 4 but then AMD blocked it with with future Agesa updates.
