£170 for a dual core in 2017, is this real life?
On the other end of the scale the Pentium G4260 is meant to have HT and seems to be basically a rebadged Core i3 6100 with a price decrease from $117 to $98.
Apparently the new Core i3 chips have Turboboost too.
£100 for a dual core is still far too much, especially for a locked one, this is 2017 not 2007
The Pentium is a £50 chip and the unlocked i3 an £80 chip.
The thing is the Core i3 6100 is now £110 due to Brexit, and this will essentially put a Core i3 under £100 again.
Sadly,if the pound had not tanked, the G4260 would be an £80 chip.
Which is still way more than £50
I paid £58 for a dual core more than 10 years ago...
That 58 pound is worth a lot less than 58 pound today, probably by a decent chunk lol.
In fact in 2007, won't 58 quid have about 115 dollars lol? (As dollar prices are what ultimately matters)
The chip would have cost a lot more to produce in 2007. £170 is not even funny.
For the former, you're speculating. Production costs aren't the only costs associated, there's R&D etc. Also, it's fairly irrelevant, the cost is the cost, if the dollar cost for the end user hasn't really increased much then there's not much to be said.
As for the latter. There's no chance that come next year there's going to be a 2 core 4 thread chip coming out that costs £170.
Well the RRP in USD with VAT comes to £171 and its priced just under a Core i5 7400.
To put it in context it is 50% more expensive than a Core i3 7100.
There's no chance there's a 2c 4t chip coming out at 170 pound (Or whatever the dollar equivalent is) from Intel. It'd be ludicrous.
Only way an i3's coming out at 170 pound is if i3 has become 4c 4t.

No. Intel are following More's law pretty well. The chip would have cost more to produce in 2007. A lot more.
You have not been checking prices recently have you??
Cheapest Core i3 chips are now £110 to £120. That is for the Core i3 6100:

Its a similar price for most retailers now.
The Core i3 6300 is around £140 to £150:

OcUK is one of the cheapest retailers in the UK for the Core i3 6300. Many other well known retailers have it closer to £150 currently.
Edit!!
The Core i3 6320 is around around £145 to £150 too at many retailers.
Lol, didn't realise things had gotten that bad.
Oh well, that's what people voted for. (As bad as that is)
