Even though I'm a bit iffy about certain aspects of that preview, no matter how negative I try to think to reign in hype, I just can't see it being anything other than good.

Price dependant of course.

That's the dream, but I'd be very very surprised if that's how it played out.

No matter how it ends up, based on that, at the very least AMD have brought out viable alternatives.

I agree on that. If is not priced at £1000, even at £600 going to be way cheaper than the 6900K, at better speed on top.
