*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

28th supposedly.

Can't be too long now before intel have to do something. Doubt they will drop to ryzen prices though due to their greed.
Doubt Intel will have to react as we'll see retailers in Europe pricing the 1800x at £1000 if it turns out to be faster than the 5960x. :D

Indeed, they have been extorting people for so long that even if they manage to match AMD in future I won't care, they will have to beat them on price performance to win my custom back.

So it is the Athlon era again haha.

well if they are faster than intel counterparts in some tiers will be interesting to see if gouging is going to take place.we seeing the usa prices now.wonder what uk prices will be :p

I can see a return to the Pentium 4 vs A64 days coming. Intel pushing for clockspeed to compete with AMD.

We'd have seen higher stock clocked Intel chips years ago if AMD were competitive. Companies exploring their architecture's headroom at stock means less scope for overclocking.

I think Ryzen7 overclocking is going to need some serious cooling though.

It's been so long it's quite weird to see AMD as a viable alternative to Intel. A nice kind of weird though :)

Really Intel have been ahead of AMD ever since Conroe (the original Core 2 Duo) debuted back in 2005 I believe since then AMD have just slipped further and further behind. I remember when Conroe debuted it was a phenomenal chip which wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the AMD gobbling up Intel's market share quicker then Robbie Coltrane eating a plate of chips with it's Athlon line at time 90% of enthusiasts was really happy because AMD spanking Intel all the time was getting boring as we needed competition but nobody. At time could have seen just how devastating for AMD as they lost their technology lead overnight and there market share lead within a couple of quarters.

Tbh regarding conroe amd managed to get their 955 be out to compete with conroe, and now this is like the same with competing with i7 7700k and the like with their ryzen offering.

Clockspeed was about the only thing they didn't push for with Failburst lol. They raised the FSB, the cache, added HT, finally followed AMD in adopting DDR, then gave up and relaunched a modified Pentium 3 as Core XD

These leaks are really impressive, is the NDA lifted next week? If so when do Intel drop there prices? :D

No Intel will not drop there prices they will be giving there entire range away for free

limited to 1 Cpu per household :p
