*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

11.)If you don't have 28 PCI-E lanes at least, your graphics card will not run Tux Racer

Speaking of which, do we have a final word on how many PCI lanes you have with an 8-core Ryzen and X370 chipset?

I bet once the 6/12 chips are out you can build one with a 1070 for less than £1k

Raja talked about $1000 4K gaming PCs. Wonder if they're intending that to be their 6c/12t + Vega GPU.

Basically, it doesn't matter switch Ryzen CPU you purchase from the R3, R5 & R7 range, they will all have XFR. Watercool a non X R3 and see where the performance goes to.:eek::eek:

personally i dont get why ppl are disapointed with the 5.1Ghz on LN2, they are 8 cores at 5.1GHZ and with that they set a new cinebench world record that's not bad.
and as i said before multi core/threading is really good on Ryzen, you practically getting the best high end performance on the market.
if you mainly use 1 or 2 cores for games or what have you, you can overclock the cores you need as high as 5Ghz on air, and will probably beat most intel CPUs.
i know reviews are not out yet, but for me Rzen have already succeeded, it has huge value, and best perf/$ for single and multi threaded.

We had all these arguments about the Phenom II X4 and the Core2 quad. Once pricing settled down the AM3 platform ended up being better value, and yet people were making a big song and dance since Intel could overclock a bit better and had a bit higher IPC.

In the end it made diddly squat on how long each platform lasted from what I have seen.

Haven't used an AMD CPU for about 15 years but it would good if that software was similar to GeForce Experience and it was able to detect if a game supported multiple threads and automatically clock only the ones that were needed for the best performance.

Well seeing has the Relive driver has game profiles and within that you can overclock the GPU game by game I don't see why the CPU will be no different.

The marketing people really know how to work the joe blogs.

Nearly every forum or Youtube video I'm seeing AMD will whip Intel's ass and so it goes on... I'm not saying its good or bad but the hype thats already there that so many seem to have forgotten about the past is quite unreal. As if it never happened.

Fair play if it is true.

To think all Ryzen CPU's will be unlocked and all have XFR regardless of price point. It does make you think where Intel can go in terms of their structure of CPU's. Ryzen R3's is basically an Intel i5 K series and overclocks in self beyond boost depending on cooling for i3 money (Maybe less). This will really shake Intel up, Insanity.

diifferent experience to what i've been seeing, slightly better at stock. but intel will lead on overclock. but from what weve seen unless you are loaded you would have to be mad to go Intel now (subject to more reviews etc, and possible intel price drops).

Yet,some also forgot the CPC leak magically and these same people ignored them when the same lot leaked the Athlon 64 results months before it was launched.

CPC is a well known French print magazine so there is no reason they would risk their reputation on making up benchmarks.

They showed Haswell to BW-E level IPC in their leak, and almost all the leaks have shown that level of performance.

That is on a 8C/16T sample with buggy SMT,and clockspeeds between 3.1GHZ to 3.3GHZ using a Fury X,so now think of an 8C/16T CPU at 3.6GHZ to 4.1GHZ,and now you can see where it might land.

Before Bulldozer launched there were leaks showing IPC might have regressed and nobody wanted to believe it since it seemed unlikely it would be the case, but they were accurate.

Nobody is expecting AMD to match or beat Intel IPC or clockspeeds when overclocked, but it does not matter as the pricing is aggressive.

Edit!!

Even at Haswell level IPC for gaming, its still going to be solid overall.

Intel was always better for multi-gpu setups.

Do we know anything about the heatsink mounting yet? I'm assuming the mounting points are different which means we'll need either new coolers or different mounting kits for our existing hardware...or have I missed something and I'm wrong?

It depends on the cooler. I know that my Noctua NH-U14S needs a new mounting kit, which they'll provide for free, but only if you send them an invoice for a Ryzen CPU or AM4 motherboard, which obviously you won't have until it ships. Meaning you could be waiting weeks for the kit after launch. Alternatively, they'll sell you one for around €8 (but it works out around £12 with postage from a foreign rainforest where they're listed). Not overly happy with them to be honest, as neither is a good option.

Other coolers claim to already be compatible, or the companies behind them are offering their own mounting kit solutions to make them so.

If your buying the ryzen 1700 cpu that comes with a wraith cooler in the box,but the 1700x,1800x dont have a cooler in the box.
