*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I'll be gutted the NDA isn't lifting tomorrow. I was wanting some reviews of the cheaper x370 boards first. Was initially just gonna get a B350 board for a simple OC, but I am thinking a wee upgrade from that to something like the Asus Prime X370 or the Asrock Gaming K4 and not bothering with a dedicated soundcard (for now at least). So haven't actually ordered a board yet.

Booooooo.

Ancient!? try a dfi lanparty (sli modded) with an x2 4400 and ocz bh5 ram at 2,2,2,5 (those were the days!) yeah im due an upgrade! Think ill wait until the 6 cores are released but this hype makes me want to pull the trigger now!

Ha ha ha. That's what I had before my current rig.

I have wanted to upgrade for so long but currently other things have to take priority (children, houses etc) i had a feeling when i knew Jim keller was included in the ryzen processor it would be special, he and his team have really pulled it off (i believe) and i may finally be in a position to do a full upgrade at a more affordable amount of money i feel comfortable with.

You could have bought a J1900 based board for £40 and got better performance, and paid for it with the massive reduction in electricity, DOH!

Get out... lol, this system has been rock solid for years the ssd was its best upgrade i ever made, who cares about that. its a nostalgia thing for me plus it took real tuning (with big toes bios, anyone remeber him?) Anyway no more derailing the hype train im rather enjoying my comfy seat

Thread is interesting in as far as it seems from translation everyone with samples is having a hard time overclocking Ryzen and BSOD is common which you might say is not unusual as everyone will find limits, but its though at the point where it is occurring. Sadly looks at present not far past 4.2.

Talking about Ryzen and crashing at 4.2ghz and above

Rough Translation
In response to someone saying that there are 4,2Ghz all core OC-bundles being offered by various shops, the last sentence is the important one. Free translation (because weirdly written in german) "Other reviewers (like us) mostly also don't manage that level of OC with their Ryzen-samples. We are all doing the AMD bluescreen."

Google Translation
Yes everything selected, they can be so princely pay the since a Prakti / Aushilfe nothing else than all CPUs times incorporate and to OCen. Power caseking with the Intel stuff so synonymous for years so similar. The other reviewers create the (like us) quasi synonymous with none of their Ryzen samples, we all make the Bluescreen of AMD ^ ^

Maybe the event video was what I said BSOD not loss of feed

Also just found where in the video he believed it was a crash to.

The second video at 19:40 also the OC demonstration at 4.1 GHz ... and the crash - so times for those who still believe in an OC miracle. And that was btw. With Waku already.

Bleh

Question is how they nailed it so hard to the maximum the chip can do and still have it nibbling less than all equivalent intel chips by a huge amount.

Ryzen is the first time I've been excited by hardware is years.

First time I'll have bought a brand new processor in since Phenom II
same, everytime i look at the perfomance increase and the cost of upgrading my i7 920 i go forget that. Now i'm thinking give it till summer for the 6c and everything to bed down and i'll be chomping at the bit to upgrade.

Well if it beats every oced intel cpu out there i don't see any problem. Sure 4,5 speed on all cores would be nice but even current 4/4,2 oc seems to be enough to accomplish the goal. Probably refresh models will do such high clocks

Well it beats the intel cpus its actually competing against (not the higher speed quad cores) it's just annoying if it's already basically at max speed out of the box.

Thats the thing - the narrative has been pushed to the Core i7 7700K,which Intel would love. The R7 1800X is not a Core i7 7700K competitor(it costs much more) - its a competitor to the Core i7 6900K and the Core i7 6850K,and Intel knows that especially at stock the lowish clockspeeds of the Core i7 6900K won't help it.

Out the box all cores max freq is 3.7ghz not 4ghz.
