*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

i cant wait, ryzen normal speed will do the job of gaming. heya heya heya /runs screaming!!.....
choo choo!

Gonna buy 1600x btw

I was tempted to go for 1600x too, but if they do clock lower then the 8cores think i'll go back to plan B and get a 1700x
official 1600X will be 3.6Ghz base, and 4Ghz boost, the problem is it's coming in april or may, over 2 months wait...
and to be honest looking at the 1700 priced at 329$ and the 1600X at 259$, Gibbo already said the 1700 OC pretty well to 4Ghz, so the 2 cores/4threads are well worth 70$

Agreed. Don't see the point of waiting for 1600X myself.

I like this - transistor porn

...look at the cores on that.

Looks incredible specially when you zoom and see the detail, the middle bits are identical but the rest is very much different. Easy to make out that each core is a pair of int/fpu units + memory controller on the die shot though. Apparently the Ryzen IMC is insanely efficient, like 99% efficiency compared to ~75% is on the Intel CPU's.

my plan was to wait for the 1600x but went for a 1700x but this was mainly down to being impatient

depends what one use the computer for.
8core is great bargain atm.

for my needs, 6c/12t seems like the best deal price/performance wise.

Some (non-UK) shops report the CPUs as 'In Stock' and shipping tomorrow, but NOT the motherboards, several have next week as ETA. Any update here?
I've not seen anywhere that lists a MB ETA other than next week, has me slightly concerned. I have my MB order somewhere other than here as they were the only place listing the one I wanted when I ordered, not sure whether to cancel and reorder to try and get it this week
