I wonder how many 1800x returns there will be if the 1700 mostly gets to near on the same manual overclock?

Surely that will be dependant on how much the 1800x overclocks by. Its all very well getting one chip to equate to another by overclocking, but its not really a fair comparison if you dont factor in both chips overclocking potential.

I had that argument on reddit yesterday.

Some guy said 1700x is better value as it can overclock to 1800x speeds for £100 less so I pointed out that maybe the 1800x can also be overclocked thus being faster still.

He said that's not the point.

Well, yes, it kind of is.

Of course whether that's worth a further £100 is up to you, but it's like an equation, both sides have to match. You can't fudge the formula just to give the answer you want.
