*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Getting spanked in most of them benches. Hype train wobble.
This review from guru3d is pathetic...who cares about results in low res. In only worth looking full HD difference is 1fps or nothing...and why the hell they are still using this bioshock in their reviews. Who cares how many fps this game has. It's got no relevance with current games. I hope tomorrow reviews will be much better like:
witcher 3, gta5, bf1 (multi and single) etc...not some ancient productions:p

they don't, they underclocked Zen memory by 500Mhz, overclocked Intel memory by 800Mhz and used engineering samples of both chip and motherboard without anywhere near final bios by the sounds of it. Meaning, that is less than the 1700x performance you'd really get, more importantly, 1080p gives identical performance where Bulldozer based chips wouldn't.

An official review with an engineering sample? I don't know why they would tamper with the memory though.

I just realised there is constant positive reaction to all we have seen from Zen so far, so i think RavenXXX2 is literally just trolling trying to degenerate the thread, he's best ignored, he's talking a whole lot of crap anyway and he knows it so its not a case of educating him, he knows....

Do we know much more about overclocking on the 1700?

Debating between the 1700 and 1700X however, if the 1700 can happily overclock to 1700X performance or a little more I'd be happy as I'm not overly fussed about going much further. 4GHz would be great, though.

Still completely stuck as to what motherboard to get though. Hopefully there will be a few reviews of them released tomorrow.

spanked? are you serious? all bar one the performance is the same, and this with 2133Mhz ram on a Motherboard with an engendering sample BIOS.

Getting a bit too eager to pour scorn on it.

Probably is drunk - ignores the Core i7 6950K results too.

Right......

Power consumption: actually very good, slightly less than the 7700K... this for a CPU with twice as many threads, a complete turn around from AMD, now they are significantly more power efficient than Intel, did you ever think you would see that written in text?

Cinebench, one of Intel's favourites, tho not for much longer i suspect.....

And some games, a mixed bag, not bad, really not bad at all, but also not great....

All in all i think thats really good.....
Getting spanked in most of them benches. Hype train wobble.

Can I join - Core i7 6950X hype train wobble. 10C CPU is getting spanked by 4C - oh noes,Intel is DOOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!

Oh noes Intel is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED. After spending billions on 14NM,their quad core CPU drinks power when it consumes more power than an 8C CPU. 10C needs a nuclear power plant.

Intel runs hot and drinks more power. Intel is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!

Quick everybody buy an iPAD.

An official review with an engineering sample? I don't know why they would tamper with the memory though.

What official review, it's a leak, reviews are still not available. It's a leak by some Iranian site and the numbers linked everywhere are being shown on Guru3d as a news piece, not much looks too official about it. We've got loads of leaks and none are official by the looks of it.

Lower resolutions are a good test of cpu ipc with games, if the mem aint making much difference then Zen IPC is looking slightly slower than haswell. Which aint that bad but was expecting better.

I know.... they still posted it and article is on their website

Except if you read the blurb they point out that it looks like an engineering sample and the reviewer states they didn't get it from AMD. Meaning as always happened, someone who had engineering samples sold theirs on some forum or to a friend, reviewers aren't supposed to do it but they do, I can attest having bought a... damn, I honestly can't remember. I think I got an engineering FX chip of some kind back in the ath 64 days, off a reviewer from a UK site.

So they highlighted reasons it wouldn't be completely representative and posted the news, lots of other places are posting leaks. To me, this suggests even ES with bad ram is basically matching 7700k in 1080p gaming... I'm not sure how that is bad news. Sure people who don't read it's an ES will use it as troll bait, but they'll use anything as troll bait anyway.

This news basically says, worst case scenario, it matches 7700k in gaming, beats Broadwell-e and kills the 7700k in everything else.

Honestly Cinebench single thread... I get it's a nice measure of single core IPC but in reality who does such work with one core now, it's moved beyond the point of mattering.

When IPC is good enough more cores wins, massively and Zen EASILY has enough IPC to push it firmly into the more cores wins area.
