*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

So are normal customers in Europe who got ryzen this morning not allowed to talk about it until this afternoon? This is very strange haha

Honestly im in a state of shock. I've been out of the loop for the past couple of months only to come back and see all indicators pointing to AMD almost matching Intel in IPC at a lower power draw. This is simply staggering, never expected this to be honest. Hats off to Jim Keller and his team.

Makes me wonder what Ryzen would do under Intel's 14nm+. Would probably match Haswell for clocks as well or even Kaby.\

Not long left now! Might just finally end up building a PC after some three years

TBH, the Ryzen NDA has been terrible, we kind of have an idea about performance but we know NOTHING about the motherboards and any possible issues found when testing them (stability, RAM, etc.). I'm getting the Aorus 5 but, in 3 hours, maybe I will be reading that is one of the worst because of A, B and C.

AMD licked their wounds after the FX architecture failed and came back with a new design, Intel are still polishing the Pentium III (they have done an exceptional job of it, but it's still a base design from the mid 90's).

you do understand that the whole reason for NDA is exactly as whats happened ? :p infact for them to keep info so tight for so long i would say its one of the best i ever seen normally more would have been leaked by now.

Well all the info/specs on the Aorus 5 are up on GB's site and have been for a week, RAM compatibility is guaranteed up to 3200MHz so we know it will be stable with at least that.

I ordered one because it had the best connectivity of the major AM4 boards, a PS/2 port, >=7 fan headers and looked cool :P

It's been incredible, not terrible.

The way this pre-order period has amped up the hype... a stroke of genius.

I disagree with the motherboard part, you have a manual and specs but, just an example:
"We had no issues with motherboard A, but motherboard B didn't boot with the same DIMMs, we had to use different RAM in order to boot and update the BIOS. Motherboard B is working with the original DIMMs now but we still had a couple of BSODs playing some games"

Given the huge number of orders they deal with daily Ryzen would be a drop in the ocean to them.

They oversold them by a large degree and they are quite a large retailer.

On their US website, the R7 1800X is the second highest selling CPU ahead of the Core i5 7600K,and in the UK Ryzen takes up spots 4 and 5,with the Core i5 7600K at number 3.

Remember, this is before any reviews and are pre-orders.

It's unlikely you can cancel a preorder in Europe when reviews come.
