*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

If the next Elder Scrolls gets Vulkan,it would be like a dream come true - especially if they incorporate some of the FO4 build mechanisms into it.

Creation is really creaking now - although TBF its still impressive what they achieved on some an old engine.

I haven't played a single Bethesda game since Morrowind really. I might one day, but I bought FO3 and it refused to even run on Windows 10, never tried again.

Also Computerbase are including frametimes now for their CPU benches.
Multiplayer BF1 is looking darn good on Ryzen.

Bloody hell, I hope AMD can sort out their Gaming performance issues! It's the only thing holding this launch back!

These chips are getting more and more impressive.

What do you people think I should sit on for 24/7?

1.312v at 62 degrees for all cores under heavy load seems great to me. I'd probably be tempted to try 4Ghz.

This ties in with reviewers saying the game looked and felt smoother on ryzen.

As I've said I have no experience with skyrim or fallout, however I'd expect the ryzen (once sorted) to perform better in those scenarios, a lot of benchmarks are stating higher minimums.

We will see,but I have less enthusiasm about Bethesda TBH,and I remember when Skyrim first came out it still used X87(!) which cratered performance on all CPUs,especially AMD ones. Luckily the mod community for Bethesda games is huge,so they fixed it before Bethesda and eventually they released a patch(probably through embarrassment).

OTH,maybe if I get into Mass Effect:Andromeda instead so it won't matter anymore!!:p:D

Frostbite is generally a far better optimised engine and should run reasonably well on Ryzen CPUs methinks.

It should work, but I honestly think you should try Fallout:New Vegas. It is one of the best RPG games I ever played and the original people involved with FO2 had deep involvement with it.

Yep,if more companies put in effort into proper new generation engines, none of us would even be looking at the quad core CPUs!! :p

Remember back in day,DICE made BF2(IIRC) one of the first games at that time to actually use 4 threads reasonably well. I still remember all the Q6600 vs E8400 arguments back then!!

What was stock volts for you?

I was thinking about which Noctua cooler to go for. Looks like I don't need to go all out.

I'll try and pick up New Vegas on a sale in the future and see what it's like.

Also did you ever play BF: Bad Company 2? It was the first one to add destructible buildings and environments, and my friend with the E8600 had a stuttering mess when the matches got intense. Where as my Phenom II breezed through the game without issue.

When I built him a system with a 2500K he was in heaven. It seems Dice was always a bit a head of the curve, and more devs are luckily going that way. We've had multiple CPU cores for over a decade, it's about time we leverage the power.
Looking at many of the new games are use multiple cores, like Watch Dogs 2, and others, it seems AMD's Console APUs have some influence there.

Its not the best looking of games even in its day,but its really well done, and the amount of mods for it is amazing. Modding is really an amazing part of FO3,FO:NV,FO4,Skyrim and Skyrim:Special Edition. Some of the mods encompass totally new regions voiced by actors, etc which have been done by the community.

Edit!!

I would say for its story and the consequences of your actions many were considering probably one of their favourite RPGs in a long time, and it took something like The Witcher 3 to dethrone it according to the comments you read in the gaming subforum.

That's darn impressive!

The more and more I read about Ryzen, the more certan I am that it will be my next upgrade in June - unless Intel can pull something out of the bag to match it's multicore performance for a similar price.
