*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Playing the Division at the moment with a 3570k and a 970 at 1200p.... Ultra preset I get fps from about 35 - 80. Dark Zone seems even more taxing.

Getting itchy for an upgrade.

You'd probably be best with upgrade the GPU still and seeing how it goes, the only game I find that truly needs an upgrade is BF 1, the multiplayer really hits it hard.

My new Ryzen build, 1800+ at stock with Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3.
Waiting on the bracket so I can fit my NZXT Kraken
:)

Will you over clock your 1800x?

edit, nice build by the way...

Wow really very interesting results. Disabled 4 cores on Ryzen have good gaming performance clock to clock with 7700K so it appeared Windows 10 CPU scheduler is not to blamed for poor 8 cores games performance, however 8 cores saw huge peformance boost in apps such as Cinebench which all was build on Intel compiler.

Look like 8 cores was a waste of time for gaming.

I could pick the 1700 up for about 135 due to some credit I have somewhere, points and a discount. The trouble is A) I still need to buy the Motherboard and RAM B) Just put an offer on a house lol.

Priorities unfortunately!!

Given that I will be doing more video work and other things, I am more than happy to buy this as an upgrade to my 7850K. Can't wait till it is sensible to do so, and I only hope AMD don't be silly and raise prices.

p.s. I do wonder how much a 7850K, motherboard and ram go for nowadays...hmm...

option five i think 131 was the most reliable for me.

it might just be your memory atm though, TG xtreem memory that worked on the CH6 will not get into windows on the Prime x370 pro posts detects just hangs on load in, switched the ram straight into windows.

By that would you happen to mean this set: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08f-tg.html
I'm curious to know their comparability and performance with other boards as well?

Also would i be correct in assuming that RAM that works well for Taichi works well for the Professional Gaming and the Gigabyte Gaming 7k with Gaming 5?
each of those pairs seem very similar to me, from all i can note the Professional gaming has a extra Creative audio chip as well as a AQC108 (shame it's not a AQC107, 10Gb networking would have been cooler) and on the 7k it just seems to be a self overclocking chip of sorts

I'm pretty interested in using that memory with the Professional Gaming and not yet decided on the 1700 or 1800X but i think i'd go 1700, seems the more sensible option, but does anyone have any thoughts, opinions or advice on that board or anything else i just said?

Jaytwocents pointing at the smoothness of Ryzen... Am getting a feeling Ryzen has been hit with harsh feedback that it dont truly deserve. Seems coming from people that one forget the past and two dont have a clue what they talking about.

Great video of a great machine and making me order the 1800X.....

I see your posting your usual fud...

It's obvious to anyone that SMT and windows scheduler need some work on these chips, AMD have even admitted this.

Stop spreading your regular garbage

Agreed, odd that gaming on 8 cores is reported as being smoother than on a 4 core 7700K. I keep adding people to my blocked list and this forum is getting much pleasanter to read ;)

Actually it does show the Scheduler is to blame, disabling 4 cores means you don't have windows trying to shuffle data between two CCXs which is why perf suffers during low threaded workloads

Placebo effect along with fanboyism is what makes people believe 8 cores is better for gaming when the hard evidence and numbers from benchmarks say otherwise.
So all these YouTube reviewers are suffering from the same placebo effect? I find that hard to believe. Once the problems are ironed out I'm sure we will be seeing different results.

i rather have a cpu where i can have my forums , music and other tasks on hand when i alt-tab, without having to sacrifice smoothness, having a cpu that pushs my GFX to 60 or 120 fps at X or Y resolution of my monitor is what i need to game, i do not need to have 200-300 fps, and nobody does.
lack of understanding of ones own need is what makes ppl believe, they rather sacrifice a usefull thing to gain a useless thing.

From all the "tech " reviewers crowd Jay was the only one with the proper reason for a hump, look at the grown up man (hi Nexus :D) doing his stuff like a true pro- passed the Ryzen test with flying colors .

But things like smoothness can be measured with frame times. I'm not for a second saying Ryzen isn't smooth but why not just do some frame time tests as that's directly correlated to how smooth games will feel? You've got to give people actual evidence not just anecdotal. I mean you could ask the majority of people on this forum if their setup felt smooth and they'd probably say yes but if put some of those people with lesser rigs in front of a better one, their mind would soon change on how much smoother it could be.

+1.

Morning lads and ladettes. I got home last night from work to randomly find my CH6 in the dreaded boot loop for no reason... a quick flash of the latest bios via the flashback function sorted that thankfully. I did also have to clear the bios after that before things cleared up.

I've been a bit lazy and not done a clean install of Windows for the Ryzen streaming PC and there is an annoying audio popping issue from the optical link from the gaming PC to the streaming PC that wasn't there before. Going to bite the bullet tonight and reformat it and then slowly work on OC. Goal is 4.1Ghz for my 1700x :)
