*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

There no future single player ES games for years to come and as long as TESO is supported.

So we need to hope for Vulcan implementation on the TESO engine, instead of the planned DX12. That would help Cyrodiil also. Because currently even if we drop an AMD Naples with it's 32c/64t to it, it will be utilised fully on siege battles. Even my 6800K is getting crippled on those situations, and I bet even if I had a 6950X @4.5 it would be crippled also. And is not bad programming. Is just few hundred players per side trying to defend/attack at the same time, using siege engines on top.

I suspect it will be a few years away especially since they released a large SP game in 2015,but still one can hope.

I wish Planetside 2 would get a Vulkan update too - that game can be quite taxing if you combine a few 100 players fighting over one point and custom built defensive installations too!!

So basically if Vega had been released alongside or before Ryzen, Ryzen would've been shown in much better light in reviews. The fact that every single reviewer used an nVidia card (to push bottleneck onto CPU) has skewed the results in Intel's favour fairly significantly.

Vega + Ryzen should be a killer combination, particularly in DX12.

Yes.

Definitely this for PS2. It was daft to build on DX9 to begin with. In the long term it hurt the product. Would love to see a performance boost and a texture update.

i hope so ...As i am getting rid of my 1080 and x34 this week

Pretty staggering considering Ryzen pretty much blew everything away in just about every possible metric. The only slightly disappointing aspect is clock speed on the 1800X, but thats getting very picky.

You have to take your hat off to AMD for how Ryzen turned out. If you told me a couple of years ago that AMD would bring out a range CPU's that will kick everything Intel has to offer in the nads like Ryzen has I would have probably laughed my arse off.

We still don't know. People are reading too much into the result of one game.

I hope Vega will be good and I hope it pairing it with a Ryzen CPU will be a killer combination, but, it's impossible to tell right now.

Over the last few years AMD also have seemed to have completely changed their hierarchy. In came Lisa Su and Raja Koduri and since them things have been moving in a positive direction.

It's the difference between having actual engineers in charge instead of normal Businessmen that have no clue about the product and segment at all.

Dr.Su worked in IBM R&D before as well.

A successful Ryzen (and so far a month in it seems to be positive) is going to really help them on the GPU front as well. AMD needs more mind share on the gaming front.

Aye, the main issue from the start was gaming. It's latched onto people and it makes them think Ryzen is inferior, with some going to so far as to claim it's another Bulldozer.

Even have the likes of Hardware Unboxed saying BIOS and driver updates won't help, and it's silly talk. Despite the clear evidence that Ryzen's gaming performance has increased since the first launch week.

Golem.De even noted that the BIOS update for their MSI board gave an average of 17% improvement in games.

Never mind Ryzen kicking Intel in the nuts in everything bar gaming.

Hell, even including gaming and only looking at launch week reviews AMD is beating Intel's counterpart processors on price to performance, and Ryzen R5 is going to do it again to the i5 line up as well.

So true :)

It doesnt help when Gamers Nexus, whom i used to like, called Ryzen an I5 of gaming when its clearly not. Current way of testing, while still time consuming, is just not good enough anymore. OC3D, or TTL whatever you wanna call him, also said dont buy ryzen just for gaming which again is mind blowing. I mean why the **** not? its doing great once you use game settings like any normal person would. No one sits on a Titan XP and use lowest possible graphics settings to hit 500 frames a sec during their normal gaming sessions.. its just not realistic.

As i see it there are only 2 areas to consider when buying a cpu and they are 1) is it delivering good performance on the day of purchase and 2) Will it hold up in the future. To me Ryzen ticks off both boxes no matter if your gaming in 1080p or 1440p or 4k and anyone calling it a lackluster chip in 1080p is just being dumb and ignorant.

I love my ryzen system, I see no difference in games(frame rate) between the 1700 and the 6700k but where I do see the difference is when I start to encode, that's when the ryzen comes into its own and kicks the 6700k all over the park

A good 20-30 FPS boost in ROTTR and hitman with the latest MSI titanium bios.

how does a bios update give 20% performance boost in these 2 games ?
this needs a double check the guy's videos have about 1-3k views, so you might not wanna take his word on it just yet.
