*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Guru3d runs today a comparison with Ram speeds on an 1700. The gains of using 3200 is tad more than 10% but combined with overclock the jump from stock 1700 with 2133C16 to 4.1Ghz 3200C14 is almost 40% across the board on games at 1080p with GTX1080.

On 2560x1440 while there is some benefit everything os you bound.

Yes looks like the flare mem kit is repackaged G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZ Trident Z Series with more SPD tables

Here is my F4-3200C14D-16GTZ up against the flare same 1700non x @ stock but mines on a tomahawk b350 board bios 1.2

personally i prefer the look of the older type mem then these flares they suit the build better

Am I missing something? It looks like the Guru3D result is clocking the CPU @ 3750MHz? But yours actually is at stock clocks?

I did notice that but he does state he is @ stock "Default clock frequency on CPU / 3200 MHz on DDR4" maybe its the xfr on the 1700 ...

I guess a nice thing about Ryzen is the fact that if I want an upgrade in 2-3 years, I can just buy Ryzen Gen 3, slot two more 8Gb sticks in and maybe and NvMe SSD and good to go!

hi i just updated the bios on my msi x370 titanium power board and in the bios its says the cpu is running at 4.25ghz v core is 1.568v is this to high a voltage or a false reading

when i went booted the cpu fan was like a hairdryer and cpu temp was about 60 ish as it booted i quickly rebooted into the bios

dont want to damage the chip ,its a 1800x im a bit of a noob with overclcocking just wanted to run at stock just wanted to know if these settings are dangerous

Go in to the bios and revert the settings to default (it'll be an actual option)

@CAT-THE-FIFTH
I am getting the same results. I can only hit rock stable 3400 on Crosshair, but bandwidth matches above as in scale. 3600 will boot but is not stable. Corsair Memory.
I am on CAS 16 though 14 cause retrain and OD.

Look at this though from someone on Gskill with very tight timings. Makes me want to go out and buy some of this ram, but I doubt I wouldn't get as good binning.

Crap on a stick. I should pay more attention. I'd just been vaguely nodding along with the comments about how it performs well with faster memory. Hadn't realised they meant by that much.

Anyone know when Naples is likely to appear? There's an outside chance I would go for a pro system for my work if it's cheap enough. Those extra PCI lanes would be handy for a start. (I have unusually high disk requirements).

Wow

Anyone pondering an upgrade from a 3770k to a 1700 and fancies playing "For Honor" check this

Just LOL @ the minimums...

Everyone knows Minimums are pointless! The 1700 is barely an upgrade on the Maximums, which are what matters!

Why bother buying new Mobo, RAM and CPU for that little increase! ;P
