AMD Zen3 event thread

Would have thought they would still be a pinch cheaper than they are to grab more market share. We need Intel to step up now to stop AMD from going to the dark side lol.

They don't have to be cheaper now though. Unless their slides are misrepresenting things, they are faster than the competition at EVERYTHING other than maybe a few Intel optimised professional workloads.

I hope Intel can get competitive soon to stop AMD gouging.

And yet when Nvidia and intel do it everyone says "well done great" and AMD consistently bring both Nvidia and intel back in line so ya all can shut the F up and suck on it, AMD cant win apparently so sure hike the price imo. *mic drop

Hang on there. I've said on numerous occasions that both intel and Nvidia are to expensive. Both my CPU and GPU were brought second hand. If I feel a product is overpriced I don't buy it, simple.

I get that but still a lot of people buy Intel because it's what their familiar with including the platform as a whole such as BIOS settings.

LOL, Intel will be like, "You can't be more expensive than I am! I will raise all my prices! We'll see who can charge the most!"

Both companies want to bend you over and give you a long and painful examination of your nether regions. Whilst Jensen watches, cheering them on :p

ha it’s been coming for years but so funny to see statements like that when it felt like we’ve been saying that for years about AMD. Won’t be long until AMD are seen as the evil one and people root for Intel to deliver us from evil and the high AMD prices

That’s the performance of the new card with, presumably, a 5950x. The 3080 performance is with the current chips. Will be interesting to see what the actual differential ends up being.

Looks like Ampere slightly ahead on current chips from a quick scour of some benchmarks. That said if Big Navi is cheaper then could still be worth it.

I put off my new rig for over a year as we were buying a new house. Now I’m building it I’ve gone pretty much no compromises. 5900X for me. Wheeeeeee!

My last rig lasted 8 years with one GPU upgrade so I’m not prone to spaffing.

Well we can now look forward to people tripping over themselves to say how "poor people shouldn't be buying gaming PCs" and other crap.

And justifying 50% price hikes like it was nothing at all.

Actually I just realised the pricing is even worse.

The 8C Core i7 10700K is well under £400 at many retailers, and with VAT,that means a Ryzen 7 5800X is going to be well over £400.

It's a pity some of the people here can't go back to my past where a 486DX 66Hz CPU cost 600 nineties pounds.

You're complaining now, I think you would be jumping off bridges back then! :p
Exactly - the first 1Ghz CPU was £1k

No word on a new chipset either so it's a bit steeply priced for those building a new AMD PC rather than upgrading an earlier Ryzen.

Great performance but rubbish pricing. Looks like I’ll sit on my 3600 for a while and pick one up when Zen4 comes out.

More than that - the Ryzen 7 3700X launched at $330. So there has been a massive price hike this generation.

The Ryzen 5 3600 was $200,and the Ryzen 5 3600X was $250.

Massive price increases allround.

There is also room for an even more expensive Ryzen 5 5600XT.

Isn't the 5800x more aligned with the 3800x? 105W tdp, similar boost clocks etc. In that case the entire range is $50 more.
