Have to admit, more than happy with the prices. It's not like Intel have been doing this for years or anything...
 
I’m sitting they could’ve made something out of me now they’ll make nothing. You don’t need to be a genius to figure that something is better than nothing.

The $300 Ryzen 5 5600X comes with the Wraith Stealth. The previous X series CPUs(even the 65W TDP Ryzen 7 3700X) came with the higher tier Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism CPU coolers. The non-X parts came with the el-cheapo Wraith Stealth. AMD have basicaly pushed the Ryzen 5 3600 replacement up a tier.

But it doesn't really make sense to keep making the 3000 series. It's on exactly the same node, so it won't be costing them less to make the 3000 chips than the 5000 chips.

So why would you prefer to keep both series going? Why would you prefer to keep producing the old, inferior product when there's no cost incentive to do so?
 
Great figures from AMD, not so great prices but if they're now top dog then I suppose it's to be expected.

As I game at 4k I'm not convinced I need to shift from my 3700x just yet. I'll wait for performance figures in November. :)
 
I dont see the issue with the price rise as they have not EOL'd the previous generation so they could hardly come in at the same price with more performance
 
The 5900x looks great and comparing the 5800x to 3800x isn't too bad a price hike for the extra performance (though no 5700x is a shame) but the 5600x just seems diabolically expensive for what it is.

It also comes with the el-cheapo Wraith Stealth,which is what 65W TDP non-X series CPUs come with. The other SKUs come with no cooler.

Even the $330 65W TDP Ryzen 7 3700X came with the Wraith Prism. So even for a 65W TDP X series SKU,they basically dropped two tiers in cooler quality. So for $300,and 10% less than the Ryzen 7 3700X,you get 2 less cores in the Ryzen 5 5600X,and a rubbish cooler.

Not a chance! That would be $220 more than what I paid and I have no use for that many threads.

I only upgrade when i can get a better part (in this case an 8c16t cpu) for roughly what I paid.

I'm not one for chasing the extra performance if the cost is also more for the part its supposedly replacing.

I get no pleasure from spending money even if it is for something I'd like, so spending more is not an option.
