AMD Zen3 event thread

If we want long competition we need AMD to bank some cash. Remember there competing with both Intel and Nvidia who are both many times larger than AMD. It's quite remarkable what and have been able to do. Without them PC's would be £3-4k a pop.
Well given how often people keep saying, "AMD aren't a charity," the idea of giving them more money to make a charitable donation to their R&D fund seems a bit contradictory ;)

I'll buy if I think it's worth the asking price, not because I want to help them out. They aren't my buddy, pal :p

Also I'm sure someone else would have filled the void. IBM still make chips, maybe it would have been them. Maybe Abu Dhabi or whatever would have poured a few billion into making a chip.

It wouldn't have been x86, for sure, but there's no reason a world without AMD (or Intel) would tend towards £3-5k PCs.

They are kerb stomping them, by up to 21% in games and absolutely destroying them in multicore v an all core 5Ghz 10900k with a 5.3Ghz boost, with more features and cheaper mobos. Intel are irrelevant currently.
And lower power consumption.

It's also annoying as hell for those of us who just wanted a reasonably priced 8c.

£275 is a reasonably priced 8 core. £450 ain't that.
The 3700X still exists!

Workstations can be used as gaming PCs. Not the cheapest way of gaming but this wasnt your reply. You said 16 core Intel chips don't exist

On the desktop side they don't, and that should be obvious considering zen3 is a desktop cpu, if intel could make these mainstream cpu's they would but they won't considering these sell for thousands and they would take a massive hit on them. So for the desktop side of things, no there are no intel 16 core cpu's.

I do wonder in real world performance in games how much better the 5900x will be than the 10900k - i am assuming 5-10 FPS better or so for like to like parts

10% @1080 with average FPS running at 200fps that’s a lot more than 5-10. Anyway, those esport games have even higher dps counts and those games got bigger boost. So quite significant.

its not rocket science they will just fill all the current slots with new cpus

3600 > 5600

They haven't always had exact like for like updates, for example there was definitely no retail 3700 as far as I saw. It wouldn't surprise me if they dropped the 5600. The x600 name has enough mainstream oomph now that I think they can likely ride on that and squeeze a few more dollars out of the market in that market segment.

Not sure where the 10% has come from as most titles said 3-5% other than LoL and CSGO.

What i should have said was at higher resolutions, i know 1080p still has the lead market share but with more and more people going 1440p and 4k i wonder what it will be, I guess time will tell!
